It'd be a wildly entertaining and soul-stirring sci-fi/fantasy story, exactly like Ms. Middleton would have dreamed up, if she had faked her death somehow, as some kind of timelord or demi-God or whatever. A man can dream, anyway. And frankly, it wouldn't even matter if I were the only one. I'd still dream it.

I was fortunate as a BLS parent to know Inez Middleton through the life of my daughter Maura who spoke of her often in her years at BLS.
Having graduate from BLS myself I know the impact that a teacher with passion can make on her students.
I also had the opportunity to know Mrs. Middleton as she coached softball at BLS. She inspired LIFE in all she taught. May her famiy be comforted in knowing that she ran the race exceptionally well and that her life will be remembered always in the hearts of her students.

The loss of Ms. Middleton is felt around the world. Michael and Gwendolyn and family, I am sure that you know at this stage that Nez touch so many hearts and lives. Mine was one. I met Ms. Middleton in 7th grade at BLS and was fortunate to be in her class again in 8th. I still utilize her lessons 20 years later! Thanks, Ms. Middleton. Rest in peace.

It pains me Auntie Nez.
It pains me that you were there the day of my birth...yet I was unable to honor you on the last day your body was here on Earth...
I remember when you would take me and Michael to China town to see the old school kung fu flicks. I think I learned to read quicker due to subtitles!
Because of you I knew of Jackie Chan and Jet Li before they were ever International martial arts idols...
I remember the time you let me borrow a Boston latin shirt and these kids were gonna beat me up for wearing the shirt cause I didn't go to their school. They asked "where did you get the shirt" and I said "my aunts a teacher there".
Then I thought DEAR LORD WHY DID I ADMIT MY AUNTS A TEACHER?!? NOW THEY'RE GONNA GIMME A BEATIN FOR SURE...
The lead kid asked who my aunt was. I said "Mrs Middleton" (prepared to take that first punch)...and with my own eyes I saw hate, turn to love.
They forgot about me as they started telling their favorite stories about you.
When I got back to your house I was so proud to tell that story.
I'm still very proud.
I miss you Auntie Nez, and it pains me.

First, I want to thank ALL of you for your precious words of love for my Auntie Nez. She was one of my mom's older sisters, and yes, she is truly an immense loss.
I know the kind of intelligent, funny, loving and inspiring woman she was, but it so touches my heart to read that all of you REALLY DID know my Aunt! (;-D These stories share just who she was, and I thank God for her. You are greatly missed Auntie Nez. Say, "Hey!" to Grandma, Grandpa & Uncle Eddie for me! Rest in peace.

All of us who had Mrs. Middleton at BLS were inspired by her will and determination to teach as much about the real world as she taught us about literature. And those lessons in English class were also tailored to help us understand the road that lay ahead, and the many different paths we had to choose from in shaping our adult lives.
I'll never forget her sitting at the front of the class, regaling us with stories of the 60s, her children, and all the incredable people she'd met throughout the course of her colorful life. I can honestly say she was the best teacher I ever had anywhere, and there were many other wonderful educators at BLS.
The truly special thing about teachers is that everything they pass on to their students is somehow passed along, and kept alive, as those students grow and share their knowledge with their children and all the people they meet. I feel lucky to be able to pass some of what she taught me, and my wife Linda, to our own children. In that sense Inez will always live on, and not only in the hearts of all of us who were influenced by her, and loved her so much.
I hope the Middleton family can take solace in the fact that she played such a huge role in the lives of so many, and that in this way she will always be with us all.
I hope you are in a better place Mrs. Middleton, you deserve it so for making so many of our lives a better place with your kindness, intelligence, generosity, wit and love.
Rest in Peace!

Ms Middleton was never my assigned teacher, and yet, over a decade since I first entered her theatrical orbit, she still stands out as one of the best teachers I’ve ever known – not to mention one of the most fascinating, funny, challenging, thoroughly unique, all-around characters I’ve ever come across. I can only imagine the impact she had on her loved ones and your great sadness for her loss. Perhaps she will forgive me some minor poetic license in paying tribute to her in the words of her favourite bard: “And, when she shall die, take her and cut her out in little stars, and she will make the face of Heaven so fine that all the world will be in love with night and pay no worship to the garish sun.”

At the beginning of my sophomore year, I looked at my class schedule for the first time. When I read "English - Middleton" my heart jumped. I didn't know what to expect really, but on that day, I knew that this was going to be the most amazing year. Ms. Middleton was one of the brightest spots of my days at BLS. She was no nonsense, but fair. She made me work! She made me laugh, she made me think. Most of all she gave me a greater appreciation for learning, and just life in general. She was dynamic, larger than life, and every one of us who she has touched is a better person for it. I will miss 'Nez. There will never be another, but fortunately, for the lives she's touched, we have a goal to which we all can aspire, because she was greatness!

Mrs. Middleton was a great teacher, she wanted evereyone to excel and she pushed you to be your best. I can remember staying after class and helping her grade quizzes. A lot of us students would go to her class and just sit around talking with her about any and everything. She was a joy and I thank her for pushing me and all of her students! May God be with her family in their time of mourning and rejoicing that she is in a better place with our heavenly father where she has no more aches or pains or worries. God Bless You all.

Although I was not privileged to have Mrs. Middleton as an English teacher, I knew her outside of the classroom. When I think of BLS, she always comes to mind because she was such an integral part of my years at Latin. Everyone knew Inez, and she made it a point to support her students in whatever school activities they participated in. She was our biggest cheerleader and she could be seen everywhere... at the football games, at the pep rallies, at the BSA/AACS/ACS club meetings. We were all her babies and she was proud of all of us. She was such a great inspiration in my life and I will miss her terribly. I will never forget that great big smile she always had on her face or that booming voice you could hear from the other side of the building. She will truly be missed by everyone. My deepest condolences to her family, friends, and her BLS family. (Class of 1993)

Stories from Inez Middleton's classes of years ago still fill our dining room, whenever my older girls and their friends come together. There have been dozens of tales and just remembering now, brings a smile to my face.
There is no other teacher who stands out in their memories or our hearts, the way Ms Middleton did.
I hope that her tremendous legacy of love and friendship to parents and students alike, is some small comfort to her family for their loss.

I only had Mrs. Middleton for one year, but it was the best year that I ever had at BLS because of her. I remember her classes and all the jokes she would say. Every class I would always expect her to say something outrageous. With Mrs. Middleton love for books, I have started to read many books and my own love for them has reawakened. Mrs. Middleton will always have a special place in my heart and I will never forget her.

Dear Family,
I am a graduate of the class of '96. I remember Ms. Middleton's enthusiasm and passion for teaching. I also remember her telling the class about tai chi...
Surprisingly, within the last two weeks I was wondering how she was and I just received the news of her death.
I pray that God strengthens you during your time of mourning.

I'll always remember Mrs. Middleton and her ginseng tea during the winters at Latin, her neverending pursuit to make sure all her students got the possible education, and her dramatic readings of "MacBeth". She always had high standards for her students, which helped me to graduate from college and have a successful career. Thank you, Mrs. Middleton. BLS '92

I'll never forget meeting Ms. Middleton for the first time. I was a scrawny, terrified seventh grader when this fiery, feisty, exceedingly blunt woman came storming into my seventh-grade English class. My initial response: utter panic. But, boy, little did I know she would turn out to be the most amazing personality I encountered in all my years as student, kindergarten through college. Ms. Middleton made every class interesting. She tackled the tough topics, treated us with a respect few would ever grant to mere teenagers and encouraged debate, discussion and thought.
My deepest regrets to Ms. Middleton's family. Thanks for sharing her with so many. She will be missed.

Ms. Middleton was one of the best and most inspirational teachers I encountered at BLS. The year I had her was not an easy one personally but she never gave up and helped me through just by showing faith in me.
Words cannot express the sorrow and shock I felt when I heard the news.
She will always be remembered as Nez - mother to all of her students.

Dear Ms. Coren and Family, I knew of your mom through my 3 children, all whom attended Latin. But I felt her through Aliyah and Victor, her grandkids, both of whom I was honored to teach. Both of the twins spoke with such "love on their lips", when they spoke of their Nana. But, her biggest fan was you....for you always shared an "Inez" story with me. She was your hero and I'm sure you were hers. Wow, imagine being, "Ms. Middleton's daughter!!!" Continue to make her proud!!!!!! love, Ms. O'Malley (Higginson School)

God bless you Mrs. Middleton. You were always an inspiration to me while I was a student at Boston Latin and are still to this day. I want to thank you for your guidance and wisdom. I want to thank you for looking past my athletic ability and giving me the balance I needed academically. You were one of the only teachers that cared about my future. Thank you and I love you. I will never forget you.

To the Family and Friends of Ms. Middleton,
It brought me great sorrow to learn of the passing of Ms. Middleton. She was a true example of what the word "teacher" means. Thinking of her English class brings such great happy memories. "Mercury is in retrograde." Ms. Middleton inspired and motivated her students to succeed not only in the classroom but also in life.
Thank you for your encouragement and sharing your love for education. You have left an everlasting mark in this world.

You were my last period class at Latin, my sixey year. I was not the best student & left after that year. About 2 years later I saw you on the street & when I spoke you did'nt remember me. That was over 10 years ago as I was class of 94. The impact on someones life is so great & even greater when they don't even know how much they did for you in such a short time. My mother called & asked what was Inez's last name from Latin..I asked... the teacher ...she said yes.. I said without a pause Ms. Middleton. Thats when I was given the news ....10 minutes ago, you will never be forgotten.

I'd just like to tell Ms. Middleton's family how much of an impact she had on me and the other students I shared her class with at BLS. She was my very first teacher at BLS, I remember her from the first class on the first day of seventh grade, when she told us that we were all going to go to college when we left BLS. It was that kind of pride in her students and high expectations of our abilities that made Ms. Middleton such an inspirational and encouraging teacher. She inspired that same sense of pride and accomplishment in her students that motivated us through the more difficult times of our education. And I'll never forget her words on that first day.

I wish I had words to adequately describe Nez Middleton. But describing Nez’s brilliance, her wit, her compassion, and her zest for life, do not begin to scratch the surface. So instead, I will just say that I loved her. I have heard that a person’s immortality is found in the memories of those they leave behind – the people whose lives they have touched. I know Nez Middleton will always remain in the memories of her students, and anyone else privileged enough to have known her.

Nez Middleton remains one of the most tremendous people I ever had the good fortune to know. As a teacher, her desire not only to reach her students, but to truly know and understand them as people put her in a class of her own. She inspired her "young people" and earned their abundant respect by respecting them, and taking the time to listen. She was frank, funny, full of love, and full of life. What I learned from her as a teacher, and person, will remain with me always. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones.

I had the pleasure of knowing Inez as both a student and a colleague in my time at Boston Latin. She was an amazing person. She loved her students, her discipline and her job and everyone knew it. People still speak to this day of stuff they did in her classes. She was an example to all of her students and to all of the faculty. You rarely meet someone who brings so much to a profession and changes so many lives. God is so good for blessing us with her during the years that she was here. May her legacy and love for life inspire others for years to come. She will be missed.
