WEINSTEIN, Jacob M. Jacob Morris Weinstein ("J"), Born August 6, 1952, passed away unexpectedly on September 9, 2018, in Boston, MA. Jacob was born in Colorado, and moved with his family to Florida as a youngster and then to Washington DC, where at age 10, he enrolled in the Hebrew Academy of Washington, where his father was Executive Director. Following high school at Yeshiva High School of Washington, and after two years at Yeshiva University in New York, he transferred to New York University, where he majored in Finance and Economics. He then attended George Washington Law School in Washington, DC, after which he began a lifelong career in international banking and finance. His job and interests placed him at some of the premier financial institutions in New York and took him around the world, with positions in locations as diverse as Japan and Bulgaria. He ultimately worked as Deputy Director of the Program on International Financial Systems at Harvard Law School. Upon retirement, he volunteered in the Volunteer Services Program at Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard teaching hospital, offering emotional and practical support to patients and their families and touching the lives of many through his kindness and compassion. Jacob was a dear man and a sensitive soul who leaves a great void in the hearts and minds of those who knew him and loved him. His lifelong friends, as well as those who came to know him more recently, remember his warmth, intellect, humor, compassion and freely giving nature. Quick to help others, he rarely if ever asked for help himself. He was truly present in his interactions with others, allowing people to feel more important in his presence. One coworker noted that he was the kindest man she had ever known. After his untimely passing, his friends and colleagues remembered Jacob as a particularly kind, soft spoken, highly intelligent yet modest gentleman whose spirit will continue to fill their hearts. Jacob's parents, who passed before him, were David and Esther Weinstein of Silver Spring, MD. He is survived by his sister, Sarah (Sheva) Herling. Services have been held. Donations in Jacob's memory, to further the volunteer work he cared about, may be made in the Memory of Jacob Weinstein to the Mount Auburn Hospital Volunteer Services Program, 330 Mount Auburn Street, Boston, MA 02138, c/o Jan Ankerson (Director).
