Joyce Mills

Joyce Jean, JJ, Mills, age 87, residing in Lancaster, Ohio went home to the arms of the Lord on September 12, 2025

Born August 21, 1938 in Lake Village, Arkansas to the late Opal (Butler) Strunk and Clyde Toomey. She was a quiet woman of faith that loved her family and the Lord. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She lived around the world as the wife of an USAF service member, her late husband Lowell. And everywhere Jean lived she found a bible believing church where she taught Sunday School! Jean loving teaching Sunday School and telling others about the love of Jesus.

Jean also loved her family and her husband and children and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a huge source of love and joy for her.

Jean always loved being on the go and was up to any adventure going anywhere. Jean loved playing dominoes and probably won most of the games she played. Jean also retired from the State of Ohio where she was a member of Jobs and Family Services and loved her position helping other people. She also loved her different pets over the years and kept pictures of some of her favorite ones including Toby, Happy, Kanapa and Rocky. And no one ever ate as much shrimp as she did!

JJ lived at Bickford the last four years where she met and had many new friends. She enjoyed going to every activity and that included bingo, chair line dancing and every game. She had a great and special companion in Chuck Bright and the two referred to themselves as "two peas in a pod". Once of her favorite things the last four years of her life was going to Friday Night Bandstand and listening to music.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Lowell Mills. Jean is survived by son, Derek (Lisa) Mills;, daughter, Sheliah (Steve) Bottoms; grandchildren, Brandon (Dana) Mills; Matthew Bottoms; Nickolas (Kara) Bottoms; Erika (Camden) Meyer; Ashley (Jesse) Herring; Brooke (Paul) Pollard; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Gabriel, Josephina, Elara, Sadie and Silas. And special friend and companion, Chuck Bright.

Friends and family may visit Tuesday September 16th from 0900 to 1100 at Dwayne R Spence Funeral Home, 650 W Waterloo St, Canal Winchester, Oh 43110. A funeral service will follow at 11:00. Internment at Franklin Hills Memorial Cemetery.
