So sad too hear of Jim's passing ... His time with us in Australia was always so precious. He would travel so far to be part of our child care world and he lit up my imagination of what could be.
"Why not?" said Jim as he taught us the simple truths about the child and the possibilities ... the possibilities that we held in our hands and hearts to do not just ‘well’, but to strive every day to do ‘exceptionally well’! I was looking to find contact details for Jim today to seek his permission to quote his words in a publication I am writing for Australian children’s services ... and found him gone.
He was and always will be a 'shining star' for all of us fortunate enough to be have been touched by his wisdom... all around this great big world…

I knew Jim mostly from high school on, though we hadn't much contact in recent years. But as a journalist who covers, among other things, early childhood education, I often thought of him with pride that I even knew him. But personally, I'll always remember him as one of the funniest, most genuine people I ever knew. He was a pleasure to talk with about politics or any other subject.

I heard about Jim from his sister, Barbara. She is very proud of him! I'm sure he will be greatly missed by friends and family, by co-workers, and by some who didn't know him personally, but know of his work and teachings in the child care field.
My thoughts and sympathy are with you all.

My thoughts are with you all, dear cousins, as you go through this most difficult time. I know the pain you must all be feeling. What special memories I have of "Jimmy" especially at gatherings at "501" and family picnics with all the cousins running around:-) How wonderful to read about Jim's tireless work at Bright Horizons - I'm sure many families and lives have been touched over the years because of him !!!
Big Hugs and Prayers to you all ~~

It's not often when there is such a clear picture of when you became friends with someone. I remember Jim at a function in Palm Springs held at Marilyn Monroe's old house. A Marilyn impersonator was entertaining and found Jim to be a likely target of her suggestive routine. In his usual good spirit, he allowed this invasion of her personal space and went with it!. That night, Jim and I sat together on the bus back to the hotel and had a deep conversation about our lives. In the span of that 25 minute ride, our colleague relationship became one of friend. I will now always see Marilyn Monroe and think of Jim. How's that for a connection? Go figure!
