JOHN BALERNA Obituary

BALERNA, John Joseph Of Longboat Key, FL, Orleans, MA, and Norwood, MA. March 31, 1924 to September 1, 2025. 101 years young. Predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia (Mclaughlin) (2017); and his son, James (2021). Devoted son of Marco and Mary (Brogna). Loving father of Patricia Balerna and Douglas Thompson, Paula M. Riley and James Kennedy, Mark and his wife, Kathleen, John and Sheryl and James and his wife, Mary. Adoringly known as "Papa" to eight grandchildren and "Great-Grampy" to five great-grandchildren. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. John will be remembered for his honesty, wisdom, and his ability to make friends with everyone that he had the pleasure to meet. After serving in WWII with the Army, John was employed in the car business all his working life. First, starting as a salesman, then a general manager and also an owner. John loved to cook, golf, and entertain family. John was known as the "Mayor of Twin Shores" and was also a legend at the local "Publix," where he went to see his friends, sometimes twice daily! Memorial Services to be scheduled at a later date. Donations in John's memory may be made to Voluntary Service, Fisher House 5009, VA Boston Healthcare System, 1400 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, MA 02132.
