1940 - 2024

CARPENTER, John K. MD Dr. Carpenter, age 84, passed away on Sunday, August 25, of complications of prostate cancer at South Shore Hospital, in Weymouth, MA. He was a longtime resident of Norwell, MA and and worked for many years at North River Medical Associates in Hanover and Rockland, MA. Dr. Carpenter was born on June 5, 1940, in Bellevue, Ohio. He attended Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, where he met his beloved wife, Peggy. They graduated in June, 1962 and continued on to the University of Chicago, where John attended Medical School, graduating In June, 1966. He joined the Public Health Service in Boston and during his residency, he took care of patients who were members of the Coast Guard. He moved on to the Neponset Health Center in Dorchester and then to Brockton Hospital. The family moved to Norwell in 1975, where he served on the Board of Health. After several years, he started his own practice at North River Medical Associates. He studied French with one of his patients who was born in France and led several groups of physicians and their spouses on trips to France, always ending with several days in Paris. He also was an avid tennis player, fly fisherman, enjoyed vacations in St. John, VI, volunteering at the James Library in Norwell and walking on the beach near his cottage in Chatham. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Peggy; his daughter, Marianne of Braintree; and his son, Bill; his daughter-in-law, Amy; and granddaughter, Ava of Scituate. He also leaves two brothers and their families in Phoenix, AZ. A Celebration of Dr. Carpenter's Life will take place on Saturday, October 5, at 11 AM, at First Parish UU Church, 24 River St., Norwell.
