John Cronin Obituary

CRONIN, John F. 81, of Quincy, passed away October 16, 2011, after a period of failing health. Beloved husband of Catherine M. (Regan) Cronin of Quincy. Loving son of the late Jeremiah P. and Katherine Cronin. Cherished brother of the late Patrick, Hannah and Denis P. Cronin, Sgt. QPD. Also survived by 19 loving nieces and nephews in both the United States and Ireland. Mr. Cronin was born in Gneeveguilla, County Kerry, Ireland and worked on the family dairy farm until coming to the United States. He was a 33 year employee of the Quincy Housing Authority Maintenance Division and was beloved by the residents of Tobin Towers, 80 Clay Street, where he spent most of his career. An avid gardener and outdoorsman, he was a familiar presence walking along Wollaston Beach where he greeted most of the other walkers by name. Mr. Cronin had a great sense of humor and a vivid memory, often entertaining listeners with recollections of rural Ireland in simpler times. He enjoyed returning to Co. Kerry for frequent visits. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester. Donations in memory of John may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 386 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA 02171. See www.Keohane.com or call 1-800-Keohane for directions and online condolences. Our Sincere Sympathy to the Cronin & Moynihan familes on Johnny's death. I have wonderful happy & fun memories of Johnny in his youth in Gneeveguilla and especially the dances in the local hall in the village. A true gentleman. He will be missed and remembered fondly.

Cathy,

We are so sad to hear about John. We looked forward to seeing you both at our annual 4th of July "Coletti" cookout every year. It didn't matter if John wasn't feeling too good he always showed up with a smile on his face. He was such a nice person and he will be truly missed by all.

I am sorry to hear the sad news Cathy. In good times or bad; every time I spoke with John, I was sure to have a good laugh & walk away with a new joke. I will miss him.

Cathy: I became very close to John for the couple years that I provided care for him while with Home Instead Senior Care. We would make each other laugh and he and I had some very special moments. I will always remember him fondly and my thoughts are with you. Sincerely and with much love, Kerrie Magee
