Grief knocks you off your feet. Friends and faith pick you up and carry you while you gather your strength. Our brilliant, resounding memories of John come with a soundtrack... His strength, his signature voice, his commitment to the cause was his purpose. No doubt. The Magnificence of his presence filled us with courage and hope. He taught me to believe in the potential of every child that comes my way. I learned about courage. Muchas Gracias John! Karen you two have been a true blessing to Barnstable. Leading the way, for so long, you shone so brilliantly. Let your faith hold you now. I hope you feel our prayers, we are embracing you with the power of Love!

Mr. Reed had a tremendous influence on my life. He often talked about integrity and character, the difference between being one and having character when I was in his class. A couple of years ago he spoke in an interview after the peace march in Hyannis. He said, "If you have integrity and character you can go a long way. Part of having them is the ability to speak your mind, but also be reasonable about what you think the outcome is. You might not get what you want, but you can get something, and you need to work at what that something is." They weren't just words, he lived by them. God Bless you J.R. I'll never forget you.

I collaborated with John when I worked at Cape Cod Community College in Admission and he was ALWAYS gracious with his time, wisdom and resources; putting students first and foremost! What a loss to our community! He was a class act! So sorry for this loss.

John made everyone feel valued. His impact on students will carry on for generations. He was a natural diplomat and will be missed by all.
My sincere condolences to his family.

I found out today that a wonderful advocate for our young people has passed away. I speak of John Reed.. or Mr Reed as I called him. I must say that my son would not have graduated from Barnstable High School without Mr Reed's intervention. My son would have been written off as another black male who the system forgot . But Mr Reed assured that he was treated equally and fairly and because of that my son has a high school diploma. Mr Reed will surely be missed in the community. Rest easy Mr Reed.. your reward awaits.
