CONNOLLY, Joseph P. "Joe" Of Mashpee, formerly of Newton, Needham, and Framingham, age 92, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021. Joe joined the USMC Air Reserve while still in high school, and enlisted in the US Air Force in 1950 serving honorably until the end of the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he studied to be a teacher at BU, earning a bachelor's degree in 1956 and a master's degree in 1959. While teaching at Newton North HS, he coached the Boy's Cross-Country and the Girl's Tennis teams, leading both teams to several state finals and was named "Coach of the Year" by the Boston Globe. After 34 years of teaching, Joe retired in 1990 to Cape Cod where he enjoyed the beach, jogging, playing tennis, ballroom dancing, and golf. Joe proudly scored a hole-in-one at the age of 80. Joe is survived by his daughters Laurie Cash of Bourne, MA, and Lisa Trovillion of Cooksville, MD, his son Dana Connolly of Newton, MA; his four granddaughters Eleanor, Carey, Andrea, and Victoria; his great-grandchildren Addison, Grace, Jonah, Evelyn, and Robert. Joe was preceded in death by his son Colin Connolly. A graveside service will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11:00AM. I was sorry to hear of your loss. Joe was a great Newton North colleague and a fine man. There is no doubt that he will be missed. My condolences to your family.

You did so much for so many, Joe. Your kindness and dedication both in the classroom and on the track are legendary. We never had a bad day when we worked the track and field events at Newton North. You are missed.
