As a neighbor of Mr. Cotellessas he was a great role model for the kids in our Roslindale neighborhood. He always had time to help anybody who needed it. As a heavy equipment operator he brought home a front-end loader and cleaned the snow from our streets during the Blizzard of 1978. One of many kind deeds of a man who lived life to the fullest. He will be missed.

John as you know you had a very special dad. Come on for a guy his age racing around a track in a compatition go card with other younger fellas that pretty much says it all but not quite. I do know one thing he will find a way to still count the earnings each and every day for the Resturant. So keep up the great work to continue his legacy as you have been doing, and himself and the socializing while having breakfast will truly be missed. Please keep your chin up, this is a very upsetting time of life but just remember him in your life and I know you can't do anything but smile.

As we begin to say goodbye to Joe/Grampy this weekend, we are reminded of so many of life's moments with him. My father-in-law was truly one of a kind and I am so lucky to have a lifetime of memories to enjoy. I will sorely miss him. Although one can't possibly capture or sum up his essence properly in a simple post, there are a few note worthy qualities to share about Joseph A. Cotellessa. He was a dynamic, unique and complex man to say the least. He was boisterous and loud with a larger than life personality. He had a quirky appetite for flamboyant chef pants, his rainbow suspenders, "Mr. T starter set" and a flavor for always making people laugh. He had an opinion on everything and never shied away from telling you. He worked hard at everything he did. He came from humble beginnings and shared a full life with his one true love, Annemarie, and they danced together through all that life threw at them. He never ceased to amaze me with the abundant energy, enthusiasm and passion he put into various hobbies and activities...whether it was "canning" or building his train sets or working his beehives. I will miss Joe for all these things, but mostly for the quiet, tender side, he would show briefly and only once in a blue moon. Like the time he leaned over at a Pops By the Sea party and told me how blessed he was or seeing the joy spread across his face as he watched his grandchildren toddle around amidst the Christmas chaos. I treasure these the most. I will keep my lifetime of memories close and take them out to enjoy every now and again. RIP Grampy - the spiciest meatball of them all.

Our sympathies, thoughts and prayers from our family to the Cotellessa family. Joe was a true community leader and a dedicated family man. I never had a chat with him that did not include a family story (he was always so very proud) and an update on community and business projects. All of this with a huge smile, jokes, and insight. He will be missed.

for Joe ~~~~
In life, if you are intelligent, you are admired. If you are wealthy, you are envied. If you are powerful, you are feared. But if you're blessed with a good heart, you are remembered, always. It's not about the wealth, power, and intellect, but the LEGACY in life behind those people you've touched.
