Although I am writing this more than a year after Mr Kalkunte Srinivasa's passing, I pray for his peace! He was the FIRST one to write to me a hand-written letter from the University of Maine in Orono, Maine, in the summer of 1969. I was to arrive in Maine for graduate studies beginning in Fall, 1969. He did not know me, but he welcomed to the USA very warmly. I wish I had seen him and shared my gratefulness to his warmth earlier than now. My condolences to his family! I have known Cheenu only in a professional context, but, as he was involved in every one of my development projects, he became more than just an engineer on the team. Cheenu was very kind, thoughtful and deliberate; serious and professional in his work, but also willing to find time for personal connections. At the end of each project, Cheenu would write a letter attesting to the soundness of the completed work. This is the first time he won't do it. The letter was like a seal of approval from a senior to someone from a younger generation, and I will miss him and that very much. May he rest in peace.
