KEVIN MCCUSKER Obituary

McCUSKER, Kevin John Of Scituate, formerly of Weymouth and Roslindale, September 1, 2021. Died peacefully, but unexpectedly, in his sleep. Predeceased by his siblings Noreen, Charles, Michael, James, and Brian McCusker; his sisters-in law Patricia and Josephine McCusker; survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Barbara McCusker (nee Chase); his brother Thomas McCusker of Westwood; his brother Richard McCusker and wife Mary of Roslindale; his sister Patricia Bailey and husband Peter of West Roxbury; his sister Roseanne (Poey) Scanlan and husband Paul of Roslindale; his sister-in-law Linda McCusker of Walpole; his sister-in-law Roberta McCusker of Westwood; his daughter Kate Krumsiek and husband Michael of Cohasset; his son Patrick McCusker and wife Ann of Cohasset; his grandchildren Charlie, James, and Kevin Krumsiek and Ellie and Connor McCusker. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Kevin was raised on Centre St. in Roslindale with his nine siblings, the fifth child of Thomas and Nora. He graduated from English High school in 1958 and attended Suffolk University. Kevin served in the Army National Guard from 1962 to 1969. He spent his entire career as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring after nearly 45 years of service and proud membership in Local NALC Branch 34. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, good music, the Boston Bruins and Red Sox. In 1968 he married the love of his life Barbara and settled in Weymouth, MA where they raised their two children Kate and Pat. Their house on Hyde Street was the location of many family gatherings, most memorable, the annual Labor Day party for over 35 years, featuring the famous McCusker egg toss. Family was the bedrock of Kevin's life. He was the jokester and trickster amongst his siblings but also the lifelong peacemaker during inevitable family squabbles. He was the ultimate local superfan, never missing a game for his kids and grandkids. His wit and humor will be missed and his loyalty as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend cannot be overstated. He had a lifelong love of reading, devouring books of all kinds and consuming three newspapers per day with such vigor as to pick up minutia that would make Seinfeld jealous. He loved to test his knowledge in trivia and crosswords. He enjoyed traveling, particularly camping at Hermit Island, Maine where he visited for four straight decades. Mark it well, Kevin will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours at the P.E. Murray-F.J. Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St., West Roxbury, MA on Monday, September 6, 2021 from 2-6 PM. There will be a Funeral Procession from the funeral home on Tuesday morning, September 7, 2021 at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Name Parish, 1689 Centre St., West Roxbury, MA at 10 AM. I was looking through the death notices and saw the McCusker name. My dad Robert Sr passed last year but he was the best friend to all the McCuskers growing up in Roslindale. When I saw the name Kevin McCusker I realized that´s one of dads best friends along with Mike and many other McCuskers. My deepest condolences to your family. Our parents I am sure are enjoying their beautiful get together in heaven until we see them all again. God bless you all!!!

I had the pleasure of working with Kevin for 26 years! Funniest and easiest going guy I ever met! Always asked about my kids as a fellow Weymouth guy! Shared his love for Hermit Island with us, we took kids there for a week! Never a dull moment in Landing with Kevin! Truly a treasure!

Well...I want to write about this character forever, yet, I wish I wasn't writing here at at. First, I want to tell Barbara, the angel how we couldn't figure out how he got to marry him, and Pat and Katie how deeply sorry I am for your loss. I'm sure all the memories everyone who has ever met Kevin, will keep us all smiling like a Cheshire cat for decades to come. My one story that comes to mind is how HE was SO amused about how he had taken his grandson to the Weymouth parade, and his grandson had to use the bathroom. Kevin brought him into the school and enroute, his grandson grabbed the fire alarm and pulled it. Alarm went off, Kevin got him in to do his business, and ran out just as the fire department got there. He told me that story so many times, and all the time telling it, he could barely get to the end from laughing so hard. His quick feet got him out of many "sticky" situations. So many things I'd like to say, so little space. Love you my co-worker, my comrade, my friend. You and Bruce together is like Martin and Lewis together again. Rest in peace.

I first met Kev working at the Roslindale P.O. back in 1980 and immediately liked him and became a friend. He was a wonderful man. Thru the years I would see him out on his rte. or at union meetings and it was always a treat. He always had a smile and big hello. I will miss Kevin as I know everyone who knew him, terribly. To Barbra and family my deepest sympathies. RIP Kev.
