WASHER, Kristina Kristina Washer, Environmental Scientist and Scholar Kristina Washer, an extraordinary environmental scientist, researcher and master's student in Environmental Engineering and Health at Tufts University, passed away, at the age of 30, from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Her life was a testament to the power of science, compassion and service - and to the belief that one person can help heal the world. Kristina's work reflected a rare combination of intellectual rigor and deep moral purpose. Born and raised in Bedford, Massachusetts, she graduated from Bedford High School in 2013, where her leadership, talent and dedication already shone - whether as a marching band leader, varsity swimmer or National Honor Society member. At the College of the Holy Cross, she earned her degree with honors in Cellular and Molecular Biology, conducting thesis research in evolutionary biology and laying the foundation for a global career defined by curiosity and care. Her academic and professional journey spanned six of the world's seven continents, reflecting a global commitment to environmental science and public health. From marine biology research in the Turks and Caicos Islands to a prestigious Fulbright post in the Galápagos, Kristina's work crossed borders and disciplines. She led soil and groundwater investigations, coordinated EPA-compliant cleanups, and authored technical reports that advanced the field of environmental remediation. In Mauritius, Kristina participated in a National Geographic expedition, conducting research on the extinct dodo bird and contributing to the understanding of species loss and conservation history. She also worked as a divemaster in Thailand, merging her scientific expertise with a profound respect for marine life and the natural world. Whether in the field or underwater, Kristina brought purpose, precision, and passion to every endeavor. Beyond her professional achievements, Kristina was a dedicated volunteer. She served in wildlife clinics, tutored students in both English and Spanish and contributed to environmental education initiatives. Her compassion matched her intellect, and she worked tirelessly to support both people, animals and the planet. Kristina Washer's impact is felt across continents, communities and disciplines.
