I remember how very brave and determined Kyleigh was when she came over to work at the State Diagnostic lab during her anatomic pathology residency. She was undaunted by the difficulties of performing necropsy exams on large animals from her wheelchair. I admired her very much and I wish I had told her so back then.

I still vividly remember Kyleigh suited up to do large animal necropsies in pathology lab at the diagnostic lab in Raleigh. She was so determined and brave-willing to tackle anything!

To Kyleigh's family and friends:

I met Kyleigh while we were at vet school together, and got to know her a little better during our Large Animal Ambulatory rotation. I was so sorry to hear of her death. She was a deeply caring and kind person, brilliant, and funny. Kyleigh brought joy and light to everyone she met. Her determined and compassionate spirit will live on in our hearts.

Kyleigh's spirit was truly amazing and I am inspired by her fortitude, determination, energy and positive outlook. Kyleigh lived next door to me our senior year at Wellesley and I would often stop by her room for a study break. We would commiserate about science classes, exams and the slightly unusual Wellesley life. Inevitably, with her perceptive view of the world and her unique sense of humor, she would have me laughing about something. It was wonderful to see her excitement when she was accepted to veterinary school and could pursue her passion. Kyleigh had a positive impact on the lives of everyone who knew her, however briefly. She will be much missed and my thoughts go out to her family.

My senior year at Wellesley, I lived a couple of doors down from Kyleigh. I remember late nights, laughter, and existential conversation. Time with Kyleigh was kairos time, time in which one is fully present in the company of another human being. I feel this loss acutely.

Today is 1-28-08 and I am just hearing about this unimaginable tragedy. Looking over the pages of remarks dedicated to her it is not even a sliver of the amount of love and respect people have for her. I say have and do not dare use past-tense to refer to some one like Kyleigh. In 32 years of life she has achieved so much more then many do in 80 years. She is force of love, happiness and kindness that will live on in each of us who knew her for the rest of our lives. Many people ask when a person as young and wonderful as her is taken, “how could this happen”? I think Kyleigh had nothing left to prove in this world and if life is a test she aced it just like any other test presented to her.

With Love and sympathy to everyone who’s life she touched,

Keith George

Kyleigh brought love and kindness into my life when we first met in high school 16 years ago. She showed me there's something beyond this world that is beautiful and deep and true, and because of that I know she will forever be in my mind and in my heart.

I miss you Ky. You showed me the world is a beautiful place and I can only hope that you are now experiencing all of the joy, wonder and beauty that you brought into my life.

To the Geissler Family,
How sad I was to hear about Kyleigh's passing. As her third grade teacher I kept up with her wonderful accomplishments and am so proud of all she has done in her short life. The messges from her many colleagues are a testimony of the love and respect they had for her. She touched so many people in her short life and made them better people. As a student in my third grade I remember the beautiful smile and the wonderful creative writings she did. At the end of the year she wrote the most beautiful poem about her life in third grade which I had hanging in my kitchen for many years. Not too long ago I sent her a copy of that beautiful poem and received such a nice letter in response. How sad that such a brillant woman's life had to end so soon but knowing she touched so many lives in the short time she had on earth, hopefully, will help you to get through these most difficult times. My most sincere sympathy to you all.

Please know that we are so sorry for the lose of a wonderful woman and a special person. From kyleigh we recieved a special gift. We were lucky to get a very special dog from her named "lucius". he has been a reminder to us each and every day of what a giving and wonderful person she is.

Kyleigh was, by far, one of the most generous and gifted people that I have ever met. Friends throughout middle and high school, we kept in touch for only a few years to follow. I had the pleasure of reconnecting with her several years ago while she was visiting New York city. I only wish that we could have continued to remain close. Her wit, her smarts, her amazing use of language, and her personality have always been an inspiration to me. I feel so lucky to have known such an incredible person. She will truly be missed.

I met Kyleigh in middle school - I will always remember her wonderful smile and 'cool girl' haircut I totally envied throughout the 7th and 8th grades. She had a magical spirit and an old soul and always seemed to have the insight of someone who had lived many lifetimes. I still cannot help but think of Kyleigh without smiling, even in her passing. The hardest laughs I ever had were when I knew her in middle school, visited her on the cape in high school, and visited her while at Wellesley college. She was just so ridiculously smart, funny, talented, and cool - the type of person who reminds you what you 'could be' and is amazing at everything she does. I cannot begin to express the sadness I feel for her family and friends for their loss. Please know how much my life will always be richer for having known Kyleigh, and please accept my deepest condolences. Love & prayers,

Kyleigh not only had the ability to learn from and give back to the world, but she was one of the rare people who actually followed through. She is a good role model to veterinarians and everyone really to always keep learning and contributing back to better the world.

I met Kyleigh at Nauset High and was instantly struck by her rich and beautiful writing. Her intellect was stunning and she had maturity and poise that belied her youth. I wondered at her and later wondered about her, where she went and what she became. I am sorry to learn too late about the years since then, and my heart goes out to you who have lost her.

Kyleigh was one of the most wonderful people that I have had the fortune to meet. Like so many others, I knew her as a resident. She made the job of learning pathology fun. She always had a smile on her face, and an uplifting word on her tongue. She was an amazing person, I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Geissler Family,
I, too, had the priviledge of meeting Kyleigh at NCSU-CVM when I worked there. I hope that in some small way, these words of how much she touched so many of us bring you some comfort. She was an inspiration of strength and perseverance that blessed many.

I first met Kyleigh when she was a resident at NCSU and I was a resident in Ophthalmology myself. What I remember of this extraordinary woman is her smile, her incredible joy for life and her indomitable spirit. I was humbled by her strenght. I am deeply sorry for a loss that is not only yours, but everyone's who had met her.

December 19, 2007

Kyleigh was an amazing person and I was very saddened to learn of her death. I first got to know Kyleigh when she was a pathology resident at NCSU. At the time I was a veterinary pathologist at the Rollins Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab and Kyleigh would come over to do necropsies on farm animals. Her perseverance and ability to do post mortem exams from her wheelchair humbled me. Kyleigh had an indomitable spirit which I greatly admired. Kyleigh loved diagnostic pathology and was an excellent resident. She had many friends at NCSU and the Rollins Lab. We all will miss her and will always cherish our fond memories of her.

Thomas Sporn

December 19, 2007

to Kyleigh's family: I had the pleasure of working with this extraordinary young woman during some elective time she undertook with me here in thoracic pathology at Duke while a resident, and then in subsequent months. She brought so much warmth and enthusiasm to my surgical pathology practice and was a favorite among our residents and fellows. We raced alongside one of the Komen Race for the Cure events together one year; how much I admired her strength and courage. My existence is better for having known Kyleigh and I am immeasurably saddened at her loss.

December 19, 2007

I had the pleasure of knowing Kyleigh at NCSU. Kyleigh is an inspiration to me, and although I am deeply saddened, I have the wonderful memories of her courage, laughter, and the picture of her speeding down the hallway of the hospital with a smile for everyone. May the peace which comes from the memories of love shared, comfort you now and in the days ahead.

December 19, 2007

Dear Geissler Family: I first met Kyleigh when she came to North Carolina as an extern. Her goal was to become a surgeon and we became good friends. Then, after her accident, I watched her leave that goal and proceed to set new goals. She was always cheerful and positive. The world of veterinary medicine will be the poorer for her passing. I will personally miss her joyful approach to life. Please accept my thoughts and prayers for you at this difficult time.

December 19, 2007

I had the great pleasure of considering Kyleigh both a friend and a colleague. She and I worked together on a publication when I was in vet school. She always had a smile on her face and was just a great person to spend time with. I am deeply saddened by her passing.

December 19, 2007

Kyleigh was an extraordinary human being. I was also one of the lucky ones to have had her teach me during pathology at NCSU. I remember once during a necropsy of a horse, she was so into what she was doing that she sort of slid out of her wheelchair into the disection area and very cheerfully was placed back into her seat not missing a beat! She was an inspiration to many and her loss is great. My thoughts are with you all.

Kyleigh and I got to know each other while I worked emergency overnights at NCSU. She would usually check in with me before going to her office and I would always have fresh coffee for her. We both had slightly "warped" senses of humor and played off each other constantly. My favorite memory is our races down the hall with me using my desk chair.

I am blessed she touched my life.

December 18, 2007

Kyleigh was the epitome of determination and perseverance! Her ability to move around the necropsy floor was absolutely amazing. I am quite saddened to learn of her death. Not only was she my instructor during my fourth year in veterinary school, but she was also my neighbor and friend. We would do well to take a page for Kyleigh’s playbook and live life fully.

Dear Geissler Family:
It saddened my heart to hear of Kyleigh's passing. I knew her while completing my residency at NCSU and as many of the other entries state, she was a joy to have known. Despite some of her hardships which would have left others bitter, she was always a light at the University: cheerful, positive, and always ready with great advice along with a smile and a hug to cheer you up. She was an angel to me as I know she was to many others. I feel blessed to have had my life touched by hers. My heart and prayers are with you.

Dear Geissler family,

I am greatly saddened to read of Kyleigh's passing. I was fortunate enough to have an office next to hers during her time at NCSU. Kyleigh was a sweet-natured, gentle soul, and her bravery, determination and zest for life truly inspired me. Her thoughtfulness and compassion (she performed analysis on pathology samples from several of my pets) were superb, and the world is definitely a sadder place without her.

Godspeed, Kyleigh

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Kyleigh personally but, as the new dean at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, I know I speak for this community in saying that Kyleigh will be missed tremendously. In the words of one of her many friends here at Tufts, Dr. Randy Boudrieau, "Kyleigh was a beautiful person – both inside and out. Kyleigh had a gift that I wish more of us could have, a wonderful outlook on life and an aura and strength of purpose that was unsurpassed." I wish I could have had the privilege of knowing Kyleigh. We will honor Kyleigh's memory here at Tufts for the many things that she gave to her friends, the school and to her profession.

December 18, 2007

I cannot begin to express the depth of my sadness of Kyleigh's passing. I was one of her instructors at North Carolina State University and I was so proud of Kyleigh's accomplishments. Kyleigh was a gifted soul and wonder to work with..but it didn't stop there! She organized a baby shower for us and it seems just like yesterday that we were all sitting there laughing. The future looked so bright and I just can't begin to express my sadness. But I want to think of the fun and wonderful moments that I had working with Kyleigh. I won't forget the time I called her on the phone and one of our 2yo ran off with the phone. I could hear Kyleigh laughing on the phone as the phone and child went down the hall!

My deepest condolences to the Geissler family.

I knew Kyleigh only a short time while my husband finished his residency at NCState University. I am so sorry for your loss of such a remarkable and beautiful person. I remember Kyleigh during her time in veterinary school and have thought of her often since then. Her smile was a ray of sunshine in the hallways of our hospital. She was gifted in so many ways: she had an amazingly wonderful way with people; she excelled in her care for patients and we were so proud that she was one of our very own graduates; and she later went on to specialize in a very tough field. Her eternally positive outlook and kind spirit has touched so many of us who have been enriched by knowing her. Her family has so much to be proud of. My deepest sympathies in your loss.
