Beginning in the mid-1970s, Karen and I became close friends with the Turners in Massachusetts; Larry and June lived in Needham while we lived in neighboring Newton. Karen and June enjoyed playing bridge, while Larry was an avid whist player and we occasionally joined other friends in having card parties at each other's homes. In 1979, Larry was one of my sponsors when I became a US citizen. We moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1980 and reconnected with the Turners in 2004, when we moved to Bowie where the Turners had settled after Larry's retirement. In 2007, Karen and I started spending winters in Sarasota, Florida, and Larry and June visited us there several years ago. As the years went by, we saw less and less of each other but stayed in touch on the telephone and with Christmas cards. With Larry's passing, the memories of the long friendship shared by the Turners and Emrits include the plants in my front yard in Bowie: two knockout roses (a gift from the Turners in 2004) and a crepe myrtle tree (planted in memory of Karen in 2022). Rest in peace, my friend. Ronald C. Emrit, Bowie, Maryland

MISSI ALEXANDER

August 29, 2022

Larry was my godfather and so supportive to me as I went down the road of teenage years. He encouraged me to continue in Social work as it came natural to me as always helping others from a young age. I always remember his wisdom that he shared. I am so sad to learn of his death. The last time we talked was on Father's Day a year ago. You will never be forgotten. RIP.

I first met Larry in the mid-1970s when he lived in Needham and I lived in Newton with my family. He loved playing cards and we would often get together on weekends to play cards at each other's homes. I shall be ever grateful to Larry, as well as to the late Billy Jackson, for being my two references in my application for US citizenship in 1979. My condolences to his wife, June, as well as the rest of his family.
