Dearest Lena.
I´m going to Venice this in September. Haven´t been since 2003, when you and Alice and I celebrated my show there. You are part of a wonderful memory. I will never forget your enthusiastic support for me and your delight in my show being there. You will hopefully look down now as I pound the pavements of Venice and smile at me with these memories in mind. I miss you.

I think about you Lena, and miss you so much. In my kitchen I have a picture of the cafe where we frequented together in Habana and that brings me such delightful memories of our time there. I miss you and your beautiful smile. I hope you are having a peaceful rest wherever you are now.

I am so upset to hear this. Lena was so supportive of me during my studies at NYU, When I needed to take time off during a complicated pregnancy, she followed up with me during the time when I was out and helped to make my transition back to school so smooth. I am deeply saddened by this news, but I know that she is in a much better place.

Lena was a dear friend and neighbor who is now on a fabulous trip somewhere in our universe. I have to have her living always in my heart, so have just decided that she's in Norway, or Denmark, or Colorado, or Cuba, or Montreal, or LA or New York, or any of the great places she loved to explore. Our family mourns, but feels connected with so many others who we never met, but know now we would love, because you loved Lena too. Lena as Santa Claus - those are the photos I'm looking for now.

On Sunday 9/9 in Denver, a group of Lena's friends got together to remember her. Lena's generosity of spirit, ability to cut to the chase, and sense of humor came through loud and clear. My daughter, Hope, shared this that others may identify with: "Lena was full of lessons. She taught my mom to be kinder to herself. She taught her that it is good to pamper yourself with flowers and room service because life is meant to be enjoyed. Most of all she taught my mom how special it is to have a dear friend to while away the evenings with...talking, drinking, laughing and laughing some more. Lena knew how to be alive and her spirit was contagious. It's hard to believe we will never hear the song of her sweet voice again."

Imagine my surprise when I saw this notice. Lena and I were friends in Strongs Neck, Setauket where she was a guest of the Kislings. She was a wonderful girl . We had so much fun during those long ago summers. I am glad her life turned out to be so wonderful, but I am sorry that she is no longer with us.

Lena was an amazing woman--a gifted teacher, special friend to many, mentor, passionate feminist and nurse informaticist and many more things. We are all saddened by her untimely death, but feel fortunate for the wisdom she shared and the joy she imparted. She has left her mark which will not soon be forgotten. We will miss you Lena!

As a recent student of Lena's, I am saddened and I will always remember and be inspired by Lena's joyful leadership and encouragement to life - long nurse learners. I also recall that it is Lena who ushered our entire class through "Second Life"

I met Lena more than thirty years ago, when we worked together at McLean Hospital, and shared a house in Lexington MA. What an gifted and generous friend and colleague! I will miss our sushi dinners together, and the passion, intelligence, and empathy she brought to every encounter. May her courage inspire us all--

Dear Family and Friends of Lena,
My heart is with all of you at this very sad time at the passing of your lovely dear Lena. Lena was a mentor and model of leadership in her profession, offering guidance,
wisdom and expertise to all who would seek her out. I am certain the heavens will be a brighter place because of her presence there. My deepest sympathy to all. I will keep Lena in my prayers. But, somehow I know she will find a way to surround all of us in her light and prayers.
Respectfully,

Lena was the best of friends, the best of mentors to students, a feminist and activist in all she did, a model to us all. Her humor, her intimacy, her intellect and creativity, her sense of fun is sorely missed by all of us who loved and were loved by Lena. We Colorado friends and colleagues are remembering Lena together on 9/9 in Denver and plan to share our remembrances in November. Our hearts are broken by our loss of Lena's wisdom, but remembrance is the sweetest flower that in a garden grows.

Lena was a colleague and friend at the NYU College of Nursing. She will be remembered for her pioneering work in informatics, her feminist leadership, enormous empathy and strong sense of fairness and social justice. Equally, Lena will be remembered for the joy she shared when playing with ideas, encouraging creativity and generally encouraging a life that cherished frolic. I will dedicate some future joyous moments to the memory of our dear Lena.
