TUCK, Leon Gray (Bill) Of Needham, formerly of Wellesley, passed peacefully after a brief illness on March 22. Bill was born on January 10, 1928 in Boston and is preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth Hanson Tuck, parents Leon P. and Joyeuse Tuck, and sister Hope Bedford. He is survived by his children Nancy Echlov and her husband Rich of Natick, Sally Tuck and her husband John Morin of Plymouth, and Joy Wilson and her husband Bill Bohannon of Hartwell, Georgia. Affectionately known as "Grandfather" he was very much loved by his grandchildren Russell Echlov and his wife Jennifer, Samantha Ensslin and her husband Sam, Carter Wilson and his partner Emily Muller, and Joanna Murphy and her husband Ben, as well as 5 great-grandchildren Nicolas, Juliana, Sofia, Abby and Harrison. A native New Englander, Bill graduated from Tabor Academy and from Nichols College. Bill was a proud veteran and received the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) for his service in the Korean Conflict. His long work career in the food business ended at the age of 85; he was known to advise others not to retire too early because he enjoyed the relationships he formed with the people he met in his business career with Star Market, Sara Lee, Hendrie's Frozen Foods, and Johnson O'Hare. A past president of the New England Food Foundation (1985), he was passionate about his humanitarian involvement with the Nazareth Child Care Center and The Cape House. Bill was a member of Brae Burn Country Club and enjoyed playing bridge and following Boston sports. Bill was a kind and caring man with a mischievous side that brought much fun and laughter for those he touched, especially his family who are grateful and blessed for his long life. I joined the board of New England Food Foundation in the late 90's as part of the "next generation" of leaders when many of the original leaders were retiring from the Food industry.

Bill stayed involved with the organization and was a mentor to many of us to ensure that we understood the importance of keeping the Cape House running for many years to come. We were given all of the history and able to take the same passion to the next generation.

We looked forward to seeing Bill and Ruth at the annual holiday party which allowed us to reminisce about the industry and NEFF. I remember one year we discussed the search of finding the perfect dog breed for our family. He introduced me to the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and many years later we now have our second pair who have made our home complete

We will be forever grateful for all Bill has done for our industry, NEFF and me personally - I am a better person because he was in my life.

Bill's advice to "not retire to early" was a good one. I talked to Bill last Fall reminising and updating some historical info on NEFF Cape House. He and Ruth were genuinely nice, fun, and caring people.

Bill leaves many friends in the Food Industry.
