I played football at Len's alma mater, Northern Michigan University, from 1969-1973 and I'm originally from Green Bay. Have been living in Miami since I graduated for the last 51 years. I remember our coaches telling us about Len. How he worked as a lumberjack and how tuff he was. How after working during the summer in the woods cutting trees he reported to football camp in the fall with a large piece of wood in his hand due to an accident that occured while deep in the woods. There was no doctors or hospital close by so they patched up his wound with pitch from the trees and had it stitched up with a fish hook and fishing line. Needless to say it was significantly infected and the team physician attended to it appropriately. That always stuck with me and made me proud Len played ball at the same school I did. RIP Len.

I always relished hearing the stories Nancy would share with me about growing up with him (from childhood to his accomplishments in football and what a wonderful man he was to all for his entire life). Rest in peace Len. My condolences and comfort to all that he leaves behind. Luckily, he leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories for all! Myself included.

Susan
My sincere condolences to you and your family. I did not hear about Len's passing in time to attend his service at Hurleys' yesterday. I met and spoke to Len at a parade in East Bridgewater many years ago, where he was the Grand Marshall.
Again, my thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

My Dad and I were huge Pats fans and he took me to Phillips Academy in summer '67 to watch them practice. I met Len, shook his hand, and got his autograph that day. I was 13 and in Pats heaven. He towered over me! So sorry for your loss. Here is the autograph from that wonderful afternoon.
