LEONARD L. TRAINER Jr.

TRAINER, Leonard L. Jr. Colonel Leonard L. Trainer, Jr. (Ret.), age 86, of Hanover, passed away on September 13, 2025, surrounded by family. Preceded in death by his adored wife, Ellen V. (Flannery) Trainer, to whom he was married for 56 years. Beloved father of Lawrence, Beth, and Maria. Proud grandfather of Brian, Emma, Aaron, and Nicholas. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Frances (Varnum) Trainer and Leonard L. Trainer. He is survived by his sister, Frances Merner and her husband, John. Predeceased by his sister, Violet Trainer; and his brother, Gerald Trainer. Leonard was a 1956 graduate of The English High School and of Northeastern University in 1961. In addition, he earned two master's degrees from Boston State College (1976, 1981). Leonard, twice awarded the Bronze Star Medal, retired in 1994 after 33 years of service in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve. He was a fifth grade teacher at the C.J. Prescott Elementary School, in Norwood, for 30 years, retiring in 2001. Leonard was an avid amateur radio operator known by his call sign N1ZMD. A private Funeral Service is being held by the family on Friday, September 19. Visiting Hours immediately following from 4-7PM, at Sullivan Funeral Home, in HANOVER, 551 Washington St., Rt. 53.
