LINDA GREEN Obituary

GREEN, Linda Joan (Kahn) Age 83, of Cambridge, died unexpectedly, but peacefully of natural causes, in the loving company of her husband of 55 years Bill Green, in the wee hours of the morning of January 23, 2022. In addition to Bill, she is survived by her daughter Meira Neggaz (nee Green) and her husband Ismael Neggaz, her son David L. Green and his children Maddy and Mayah; her sisters Ellen Bresnick and Deborah Kahn; and a large and loving contingent of family and friends. A people magnet, Linda opened her homes in Roxbury, Chestnut Hill, Wayland and Cambridge, creating a family far beyond the traditional model.

Linda's artistic spirit came through in everything she did, from the clothes she wore, to the house she lived in, to her dabbling in knitting and pottery, to the colorful textiles she wove, which now grace the homes of many of those who knew her. An avid traveler, Linda favored Central America, spending months at a time volunteering, studying Spanish and living around Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, where she and Bill supported more than a dozen local children to attend school. As a Board member of Mil Milagros, she supported school lunches in villages around the Lake. She loved to swim, was a voracious reader, and adored both her BMW and her Australian shepherds. And, she enjoyed her time as a Big Sister to a lovely young woman.

A Newton girl through and through, with a keen interest of people, Linda was a retired licensed clinical social worker, supporting her clients through her private practice in Sudbury, as a Guardian ad Litem at Jewish Family Services, and at the EAP company in Shrewsbury. Early in her career, she was a teacher in both Lincoln and Medford, specializing in working with children with dyslexia. She was a co-author of Solving Language Difficulties: Remedial Routines. Linda holds degrees from the University of Michigan, Boston University, and Smith College School of Social Work.

If you would like to honor Linda, donations to Planned Parenthood, Mil Milagros, ACLU, or the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (or all 4) would be greatly appreciated. A delightful (albeit sad) Zoom Remembrance was held.

I spent much of my childhood/adolescence in Linda's home with her sister, Ellen, and at camp with both of them. Always admired her grace and charm.

I'm so sorry to hear about Linda's passion. I loved spending time with her as we both were passionate about Mil Milagros and supporting children and families in guatemala. My thoughts and prayers to Bill, their children and grandchildren, and all who knew and loved her.

Memories of spending time with Linda come to mind as I still try to absorb news of her death. In recent years we would meet occasionally at Johnny´s Deli in Newton for lunch and time to catch up on family news. I will miss these get-togethers. Condolences and much love to Bill, Meira, David Luther, and all extended family members.

I remember how we looked up to her back in the day. I have strong memories of your house and the rooms. Kitchen. Dining room. The stairs up to your bedroom where we would have study struggles preparing for exams. The hospitality was incredible! Linda was an awesome presence.
