LINDA SWEENEY Obituary

SWEENEY, Linda C. "Clancy" (Flanagan) Of Dorchester, passed on November 23, 2025, at the age of 83 years, with her family by her side. Born in Boston on September 23, 1942, she was the first born to John and Marguerite (McKenna) Flanagan. Linda grew up in Dedham with her siblings, the late Elizabeth "Betty" Keizer, John Flanagan, Margaret "Penny" Flanagan, the late Robert Flanagan, Susan Flanagan, Patricia Nestor and the late Jeffrey Flanagan. After attending Youville School of Practical Nursing, she had a 32-year career at Holy Ghost Hospital. When she retired, she found great joy in providing private nursing to friends and neighbors. Linda was a proud member of St. William's Parish in Dorchester, where she often volunteered and made lifelong friends. Her other religion was the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Linda was married to her beloved husband, the late Jeremiah Sweeney; and is survived by her devoted daughter, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Sweeney-Fanelli, her caring son-in-law Dr. Timothy Sweeney-Fanelli; and their daughter, Laura, of New Hampshire. Linda was a cherished sister in-law to John and Kathy Sweeney, Patricia Sweeney, Mauren Leydon, and Christine Flanagan. Generations of nieces and nephews will remember her kindness, generosity and humor. Family and friends will honor and remember Linda's life by gathering for Visiting Hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Margaret Church of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 800 Columbia Rd., Dorchester, on Tuesday morning, December 2, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. A Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne, will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 12:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Animal Rescue League of Boston, where Linda adopted her "other daughter," Finnley Mae, at www.arlboston.org For directions and guestbook, please visit www.jmurphyfh.com Funeral home handicapped accessible with ample parking.

The day starts without Linda since she ascends to eternal life with Jesus, the angels, Jeremiah and multitudes of the faithful leaving many of us in this sometimes-vale of tears. Our final real-life goodbye was a very necessary but sad farewell in our close old family.
So many aspects to her personality... her humor and generosity, her "LadyLuck" personification and how she spread it around, her nursing career and daily bantering with the ever-faux-caustic Jerry, her sharp wit and memorable instant-retrieval conversation and her Catholic commitment to Faith, Hope, Charity and Fr. Unni.
None of her medical "collection" shook these as she was lifted up by her love of and from Liz, Tim, Laura and her devoted, loving sister Penny.
RIP, Dear Lady
John and Kathy
