Llewellyn CROSS Obituary

CROSS, Llewellyn L., Jr. Died on September 13, 2015, in Oxford, Ohio, surrounded by his daughter Susan Cross Lipnickey and husband Jim (Oxford, Ohio), daughter Nancy L. Cross (West Lafayette, Indiana) and son, Stephen D. Cross (Cold Spring, Kentucky). Mr. Cross was born in Milton, Massachusetts, the only child of Llewellyn L. and Eva D. Cross, and served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII as a QM 2/C. Upon his honorary discharge, he attended Tufts University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. In June, 1950, he married Elsie L. Cross (nee Tait), who predeceased him in October of 2011, and in 1953, they moved to Walpole, Massachusetts where they raised their three children and remained until May, 2008. "Llew" retired as Chief Hydrologist for Chas. T. Main, Inc., Chas. T. Main, International and Uhl, Hall & Rich in 1988, after three decades of traveling throughout the United States and to the far reaches of the world, to design and supervise the construction of dams. He was a member of the East Junior High School (Walpole, Massachusetts) Building Committee and was actively involved in the Boy Scouts, having achieved the honor of Eagle Scout, himself. Mr. Cross moved to the Knolls of Oxford (Ohio) in May of 2008, when his wife's Alzheimer's Disease required professional round-the-clock care, where he soon became an active resident, interacting with the other residents and staff alike. The family wishes to thank the Knolls of Oxford, Dr. Erika Brudzinski, Dr. Brent Bader and VITAS hospice for their professional and caring devotion to our dad. A memorial service celebrating his life and the life of his late wife will be held at a date yet to be determined, back in their adopted hometown of Walpole, Massachusetts. Donations made be made, in the name of Llewellyn L. Cross, to the Walpole Scholarship Foundation (P.O. Box 58, East Walpole, Massachusetts 02032) or the charity of your choice.

Cross Family
My thoughts go out to all of you at the passing of your Dad. He was a true friend to my Dad, with whom they shares many worldly adventures at CT Main. I will be thinking of you all.

I have fond memories of Mr. Cross walking through our neighborhood in Walpole on a regular basis. He made walking "cool" long before it was. He and his wife, Elsie, were wonderful neighbors and always a delight to run in to. My condolences to the Cross family.

Llew was a big part of our lives in Roslindale. He was best man for my husband Bob 69 yrs ago Feb. They hitch hiked everywhere to go 'birding' which they both loved. Bob died in Jan. and I'm sure when Llew gets there they'll be off again to find some special bird. Wonderful memories of our youth.
My thoughts are with his family and wish you peace.

Mr. Cross, as he preferred to be called in the dining room of assisted living, was and is admired and respected by residents, aides and staff alike. When he heard me mention living in Brazil, he began greeting me in Portuguese every morning, talking about contemporary issues in Brazil, and remembering a mutual friend who was his dining partner at the Knolls for years. My visiting children talked about him being "cool." a memorable gentleman, indeed.
