MALCOLM JONES Obituary

JONES, Judge Malcolm Age 85, died on Aug. 27, 2015. He was a resident of Bonita Springs, Florida, having previously resided in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. He leaves his loving wife MaryEllen, his sons Stanton M. Jones of Waltham, Massachusetts, and Lawrence S. Jones and his daughter-in-law, Kathryn Urner-Jones, of Framingham, Massachusetts. He also leaves his loving sister Brenda J. Rand of Hudson, Massachusetts, as well as David and Janice Russell, and their children, Delaney and Austin, of Westwood, Massachusetts. He was the son of Lewis S. Jones and Shirley (Kaplan) Jones. He attained both his undergraduate degree and Juris Doctor degree from Boston University and has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar since 1954. He also was admitted to the practice before the United States Supreme Court. He served as an assistant Attorney General of Massachusetts in the Administration of Edward W. Brooke, and in that capacity, did all the legal work for the institution which is now the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. This included taking over 5,000 acres of land by eminent domain to create the present campus. He also served as City Solicitor of the City of New Bedford in 1970 and 1971, during the time when the City was experiencing great turmoil with race riots. He practiced law in New Bedford, Massachusetts, for 35 years, until his appointment as Associate Justice to the Probate & Family Court in 1989, where he served for eleven years until mandatory retirement at age 70. Thereafter, he was with the firm of Rusitzky & Russell, of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and engaged in mediation practice for over ten years. Judge Jones loved his family, law and life. At the request of the family, all services will be private. This is my Uncle Mac. Uncle Mac was married to my Aunt Pat (the mother of Larry & Stan Jones). I am saddened to hear of his passing but wish he knew that my sister Lauren has her undergrad in Law & I work at a law firm. I think Uncle Mac would be very proud.

Wish I could tell him myself.

Miss You Uncle Mac

Sincerely your Niece,

Maryellen & Family, I just learned about Judge Jones' passing, and I wanted to extend my sincere sympathies to all of you. What a fine man he was! I appeared before him many, many times as a Judge and as a mediator, and I served on Bar Association matters with him as well. I was very, very fond of Judge Jones, and I can't imagine the depth of your loss. May it comfort you to know from others that he will be sorely missed. Mal Ryan

Dear MaryEllen,
I have so many fond memories of the Judge. I was so fortunate to serve as his Register, truly a highlight of my professional career. Known for his fairness and judicial economy he was a shining example of a lawyer's transition from bar to bench. I also loved him as one of the kindest and most decent people I have ever known. My heart is with you in this time of sorrow. With love and prayer, Eileen Wardwell
