GOMES, Manuel S. Age 73, of Boston, passed away after a long illness, on Saturday, November 29, 2025. Born in Brava, Cape Verde, son of the late Francisco and Maria (Soares) Gomes, he lived in Boston most of his life. Manny enjoyed fishing, long walks with his dog, Luca, watching all New England sports teams, especially the Patriots and Celtics, and cooking dishes of all kinds. Manny was also very close to his family. Spending time with his granddaughter, Noelle, was the highlight of his life, especially working on their garden together every spring. He was a longtime member of The Laborers' Union Local 22, working as a Lead Laborer / Pipe-layer with The Dow Company and a Foreman for Jay Cashman, Inc. One of his proudest career accomplishments was working on The Big Dig / Central Artery Tunnel Project from start to finish. Manny proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for six years, bravely fighting in Vietnam and earning The Rifleman Marksmanship Badge. Devoted husband of Naomi J. (Lomba) Gomes; loving father of Adrianna Gomes; and adored Papa of Noelle Sage. Also survived by his siblings, Suzette Lobo and husband, John, Domingos Gomes and wife, Debra, Maria Gomes, Matilda Gomes and John Gomes; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, José Gomes, with whom he was extremely close. Manny will always be remembered as a warm, caring, loving, dedicated, and hardworking man, who always made everyone feel welcome. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 10, at 10 AM, from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., NEW BEDFORD, followed by his Funeral Mass, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, at 11 AM.
