MILLER, Attorney Marc J. Lt. Marc J. Miller Marc J. Miller, who voluntarily enlisted to serve in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War died peacefully at home on November 11, 2025, fittingly on Veterans Day. Lt. Miller ascended above the clouds for his final flight, succumbing to complications of Multiple Myeloma, caused by exposure to Agent Orange while serving the country he loved beyond measure. Marc was a proud U.S. Navy aviator, flying A-1 Skyraiders from the decks of the USS Intrepid, completing more than 60 missions, many as low level protection for those soldiers "with boots on the ground". Lt. Miller had the honor of being aboard the USS Wasp for two of NASA's Gemini space capsule recoveries. For his service, Lt. Miller was awarded 3 Air Medals, the Navy Commendation Medal with "V" for Valor, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal along with many commendations. Born in Atlantic City, Marc was the son of Maxwell and Frances Miller, younger brother to his sister Natalie and Uncle Marc to his beloved niece Robyn. Marc grew up on "Dewey Place" and loved retelling tales, with humor and precision, of the "mishigas" he and his cousin, Stan Cohen created along the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Marc married Donna DeSantis in Rhode Island and in 1968 they welcomed a son, Scott Miller. In 1975 Marc graduated from Suffolk Law School and went on to practice law in Massachusetts for fifty years. Marc took great pride in the man his son became - decent, devoted to his family and committed to public service, as Marc had always been. He was deeply proud that Scott serves as a Superior Court Judge in Tompkins County, New York. Marc and Scott shared every conversation that mattered, nothing important was ever left unsaid. They shared countless nights at the Boston Garden ~ through the championship years of the Larry Bird and Magic Johnson era, and unforgettably they were there for Bird's very first game! Marc held deep affection for his daughter-in-law, Teri who he loved as his own. A great joy came to Marc when he became "Papa" to Bryce Miller, who is rarely seen without a USS Intrepid shirt on! In 1993 Marc met Beth Maguire of Peabody, beginning a supportive and loving relationship that brought them to marry in 1998. Marc and Beth built a life together marked by tremendous love and deep devotion. Marc embraced Beth's large family. He truly loved them and he was loved by them! Marc shared an especially close friendship with Beth's father, Bob Maguire of Peabody. Close in age and temperament, they shared a love of sports, lively political discussion and the values of loyalty, honesty and kindness. When Marc decided to seek the office of Selectman in Lynnfield, he was often out shaking hands in the company of the "indomitable" Jack Donegan with whom he shared a great friendship. Old friend, Greg Delcore was instrumental in teaching the campaign staff to "count the votes" and Marc won! He was re-elected in the next term and became Board Chair. Marc was also a proud Rotarian. Marc and Beth moved to Amesbury and relished life on the Merrimac River where they made and still have many of their dearest friends. Recently they settled in Middleton. Together they enjoyed extensive travel, playing golf, dining out, visits with their grandson Bryce, escaping winters in Florida and most of all cherished time in the company of their dearest friends and family. This year, when some said it couldn't happen, Beth got Marc to Florida for ten days to be with his Cousin Stan Cohen, his wife Gwynne and friends of many years David and Mary Ravanesi. It was amazing! And then there was the July Fishing Trip! One of Marc's wishes was to see his grandson Bryce experience the joy of landing a big fish. With the help of his brother-in-law, Bobby, a final fishing trip was arranged. After a slow start Marc saw Bryce's line go taught and Marc rose to his feet cheering wildly as Bryce reeled in an impressive striped bass! Marc's last summer wish had come true. Bryce says his fishing trip with Papa was the most fun he had all summer. It was surely the most fun his Papa had also! Marc was Godfather to Paula & Michael Volkert and shared a meaningful bond with Michael, a fellow veteran. He was also Godfather to his dear friend, Malcolm Itkin's son, Ari Itkin. Whether known as Lt. Marc J. Miller, Attorney Marc Miller or simply Marc, he was generous with his time, steadfast in his loyalty and devoted to his family and the law. He mentored young lawyers, supported colleagues, and applied his labor-law expertise widely. In every aspect of his life, Marc embodied integrity, service and quiet strength. A private celebration of Marc Miller's extraordinary life will be held in Spring 2026. Donations to the
Wounded Warriors Project would be most appreciated.
