MARGARET MCNALLY Obituary

McNALLY, Margaret Doyle Formerly of Newton Highlands and Meriden, CT, died peacefully at her home in Hingham, MA, on June 23, 2022. Devoted mother of Siobhan McNally and her husband, Mark Liponis of Lenox, Michael D. McNally and his wife, Kathleen of South Boston, Bryan J. McNally and his wife, Joanne of Natick, and the late Peter J. McNally. Loving grandmother of Timothy Liponis and his wife, Catherine, Matthew Liponis, Brenna Liponis, James McNally, Caroline McNally, Megan McNally, and Michael McNally Jr. Great-grandmother of Avery Grae Liponis. Sister of John and Roger Doyle and the late William Collins, William Doyle, Jr., and Eileen Rosen. Daughter of the late William and Ellen (Bennett) Doyle. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. A staunch advocate of women's health, Maggie had a long career at Boston College Health Services as a Registered Nurse, and later as a Family Nurse Practitioner, where she distinguished herself as a graduate of one the first Nurse Practitioner Programs in Massachusetts. She raised her children to be strong and outspoken, and defenders of those less fortunate - often tapping into the words of JFK, "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country". And she manifested that, not only with her tireless work as a nurse, but also as President of the League of Women's Voters, Champion of the "Trick or Treat Program for Unicef", and a proud sponsor of the Fresh Air Fund. Her children, grandchildren, and one and only great-grandchild, Avery Grae, were her pride and joy. She also loved creatures, small and large (except maybe bears, bats and snakes). And it was the ocean that provided her with true solace, as was just hanging out on the back porch with family, having a cigarette and a Dewars and water. Visitation in the O'Brien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester St., SOUTH BOSTON on Wednesday, June 29, from 4-8pm. Funeral Mass in St Brigid Church, 841 East Broadway, South Boston on Thursday, June 30, at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment Lakeview Cemetery Wayland. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Maggie Doyle McNally may be made to Caring Health Center, with attention to the Pediatric Refugee Program, 1049 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01108.
