MARGARET VANDERSLICE Obituary

Vanderslice, Margaret Ann Theresa (Hurley) 83, of Osterville, MA and Naples, FL passed away peacefully on, May 13, 2015 at her home in Osterville. Peg leaves her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of almost 59 years, Thomas and their four children Thomas Jr. of Manhattan, NY, Paul and his wife Lynne of Wilton, CT, John and his wife Janet of McLean, VA and Peter and his wife Beth of Manhattan, NY. Peg also leaves nine grandchildren, Thomas III, Nicholas, Matthew, Paul Jr., Megan, Sean, Peter Jr., Audrey and Victoria, a sister Mary Burke of Falmouth, MA, a brother Charles Hurley of Longmeadow, MA and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Fr. Francis Hurley CSC of Stonehill College. Peg was born in Waltham, MA, on July 5, 1931, to the late Michael and Mary (Sweeney) Hurley. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waltham, MA. She went on to graduate from St. Margaret's School of Nursing in Dorchester, MA and to work as a registered pediatric nurse. Peg, a compassionate and beloved member of the community, enjoyed her flowers, old movies, watching birds feed outside her window and a good laugh. A faithful Catholic, she and her husband were lifelong supporters of many organizations that furthered the advancement of Catholic education. In particular they were active benefactors of Boston College, endowing several Academic Chairs and a residence hall. Peg was a member of the Oyster Harbors Club in Osterville and the Royal Poinciana Club in Naples. A viewing will be held at the John Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road in MARSTON MILLS, MA on Friday, May 15th from 4 to 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville, MA on Saturday May 16th at 10am followed by burial at St Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville, MA. All are invited to a celebratory lunch to follow at the Oyster Harbors Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Ave, Osterville, MA 02655.
