MARION BARROW Obituary

BARROW, Marion Cameron "Camie" Passed away unexpectedly on July 21, 2024 of natural causes. An avid conservationist and sporting dog enthusiast known for her kindness, she lived in Brunswick, Maine with her best friend and husband, David Huntress; and their four beloved English Springer Spaniels, Bailey, Mason, Puddles and Finn. Camie grew up in Wellesley, Massachusetts and graduated from Noble and Greenough School and Williams College. Her love of the outdoors soon drew her to Maine, where she met David. She was a longtime board member of the Maine Coast Heritage Trust, served on the board of Maine Council Atlantic Salmon Federation and was active in a variety of other causes, including the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust. Camie was an innate dog handler and enormously grateful to her field trial mentors and with their support bred, trained and passionately competed in field trials with her dogs. While competing with her dog, Bailey in 2021, Camie became only the fifth woman in 65 years to win the English Springer Spaniel National Amateur Championship and was the first handler of any gender to win both the Championship and the Gunners' Award prize in the same year. Camie is survived by her husband, David; her parents, Susan "Sue" Barrow and Christopher "Kit" Barrow; her sisters, Katie McGauley (nee Barrow) and husband, Tom McGauley, Annie Barrow and Susie Barrow; her nephews, Patrick and Christopher "Kit"; and many other cherished extended family members. She will also be missed by David's family and her many friends, including those in the conservation and field trial communities. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, in Brunswick, Maine. Details will be published closer to the date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her name to the, Maine Coast Heritage Trust (www.mcht.org), the English Springer Spaniel Foundation (https://englishspringerfoundation.org/), or to support Atlantic Salmon Federations education efforts in Maine classrooms via the Maine Council ASF's "Fish Friends" program. Camie was an amazing person who always thought outwardly. She always loved to help and pitch in on any work to be done. Any time I needed advice, or wanted a second opinion Camie had sound and fair advice. She was an authentic friend.I will miss her.

I remember a young Camie from growing up in Wellesley, playing soccer together with our dads as coaches, and of course as Nobles classmates. Beautiful, funny, and possessed of good character, Camie was a superior light. I loved seeing photos of her from afar - in Maine, with her dogs and husband, radiant and thriving. We Langfords will always remember Camie and are all just so very sorry to hear this news.

I was so sad to hear this news. I rowed with Camie at Nobles. She was such a positive and supportive member of our team - always willing to put in the work with grit and humility, a sense of humor, and such a warm and easy smile. She was just a lovely human being. My heart goes out to the Barrow family, Camie's husband and dogs during this tremendous loss.

It breaks my heart to read this. Camie was a student in my sixth grade classroom. I loved her and her whole family. Camie was such a kind and loving person who was always patient with others and could find the best qualities in each her classmates. She was a diligent student who loved to learn and to write. I can still see her handwriting these many years later. My love and deepest sympathy to Sue, Kit, Katie, Annie, Susie and most especially to David. Camie was a beautiful star who has just moved on to the heavens. Rest in peace, Camie, and know you are beloved down here on earth.

Camie was the best study partner. But, she really shone as a 'younger older sister' to us when we skiied together in Maine and she made sure Brendan was okay on all the flats on his snowboard - for that matter, that *I* was okay as the weakest skier of the party. She was such a proud actual older sister to K,A,&S. Camie was the kindest, most thoughtful, and funniest friend. Mostly, I liked meeting up with her on Charles St for a quiet glass of wine and life catch up. I thought I had so much time to reconnect with her once life quieted down a bit - and it was an incredible shock that she was lost so young. We thought of her every time we saw dog trial practice in Westport and we kept in touch on social media primarily in the last few years. We are absolutely gutted at the loss of her in this world, that could often use more kind, caring, and smart people like Camie. Our sincerest condolences to all those who loved her - may her memory be a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.

This was taken at my wedding in 1984. Adorable young girl. I have fond memories of Camie´s childhood along with her sisters and cousins. I am so very sad. Please know that you are all in my thoughts with a heavy heart.
With Love &Sympathy,
Alison
