Marsha LAMSON Obituary

LAMSON, Marsha (Haley) of Winchester, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, November 28, 2022 at the age of 78. Beloved wife of Edward ""Ted"" Lamson of 44 years, the devoted mother of Haley & her husband James Troxell of Boston, MA and Ted & his wife Kristi Lamson of Parkville, MO, cherished grandmother of Eddie, Bridget, and Robbie Lamson, and aunt to Melissa Haley of Sherman Oaks, CA & Margaret Glidden of South Hamilton, MA. She was predeceased by her parents W. Howard & Grace (Courtright) Haley and brother Douglas Haley.

Born on February 9, 1944 in Boston, MA, Marsha was a graduate of Marblehead High School and Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA where she was a captain of the tennis team and political science major. Her career and devotion to important causes focused on improving the lives of others guided her life. Marsha worked as a child welfare worker for the state of New Hampshire and as a program coordinator for the American Heart Association in Buffalo, New York before joining the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in 1974. At MDA, Marsha excelled at curating events including celebrity roasts, road races, 24-hour parties, and countless promotional functions. Marsha directed and coordinated MDA's annual Boston Jerry Lewis Labor Day telethon with WCVB-TV Channel 5. Marsha retired as the Greater Boston District Director of Muscular Dystrophy Association in 1984 and dedicated the remainder of her life to volunteerism.

From the time Marsha moved to Winchester in 1983, she became deeply involved with initiatives supporting the Winchester Hospital, First Congregational Church of Winchester, local politics, and was a founding member of the Winchester Foundation for Educational Excellence (WFEE). Marsha helped organize the building of the original Ginn Field playground and fundraisers such as the Winchester Hospital Big Steps for Little People Walk-a-thon and the WFEE Spelling Bee. She greatly valued her time as an active volunteer and associate at the Museum of Fine Arts from 2004-2022. Marsha took great pride in the opportunity to chair the annual Art in Bloom celebration in 2007 and 2008 as well as her time as Senior Associate Vice Chair.

Marsha's most treasured times were spent with her family and friends. Through travels around the globe, summers spent in Maine, countless tennis groups, social events, and spoiling her family with her loving spirit, she always prioritized her friendships and was forever welcoming to all. She was a strong and loving presence in the lives of those who knew her, and will be greatly missed.

Friends and relatives are kindly invited to attend a service in celebration of her life on Saturday, December 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Winchester. A family burial will be held at the Reno Garden at the First Congregational Church.

The service can be viewed at https://youtu.be/D7-lb7E_SnU

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Marsha's memory to the First Congregational Church, 21 Church Street, Winchester, MA 01890.

To all of the Lamson family, Ralph and I send our deepest condolences to everyone. As the "neighbor's across the street" we will miss Marsha's happy smile and frequent waves, as we all went about our busy lives. We have been neighbor's for 35 years and it has been our pleasure to have known her. She made us feel welcome, and was always there for advice and a caring ear. We will miss Marsha a great deal; however we know that Ted will be there to continue our friendship. Unfortunately, Ralph and I have Covid and will not be able to attend the service. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Paula Schumann & Ralph Dinneen. 19 Sheffield West.

Marsha was a major reason that the "Class of '08" was special at the MFA. She managed tough leadership issues with grace and a smile. Her laugh and her enthusiasm and her good ideas are legend. We miss her.

A lady of grace in looks, manner and in spirit. She was one of the brilliant leaders of the MFA Art in Bloom `08 Team and no matter what the circumstance met me with a smile, quick quip and best yet a solution on how to solve that particular problem with a flower arrangement. She was a friend I was so happy I had the opportunity to meet and keep. I will truly miss Marsha.

Although we were not the closest of friends, whenever I saw Marsha I knew I would be greeted with a smile and some funny chit chat. She was truly the nicest, most down -to-earth woman.. with the most beautiful smile. A little dynamo.. God bless your beautiful soul Marsha. The world is shining a little less bright tonight. Hi Ted, I don´t know if you will remember me?! I worked with Marsha in the MDA Greater Boston Chapter. I can´t say enough about how much her mentorship meant to me at MDA. It was my first full time job immediately after graduating from college. I was so fortunate to work with her. I have soooo many fond memories working with her at all the great events she planned. She was a born natural event planner!...a great teacher and the best ever coworker! I´m so sorry to hear of her passing. May the memories you have of Marsha bring you comfort.
Sincerely,
Peter Villandry

I just heard about Marsha. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone. Marsha sat in front of me at marblehead (Hannaway). This was helpful because she was so smart. We have keep in touch all these years and she was the best. I knew she was sick, but I am shocked and did not not know how sick. I feel sad for all of you. She was taken too soon. We had a lot of fun together and I will miss her.
Love,
Mary Jane Boudreau
