Dear Jerry, Abby, Oliver and Emma,
Please accept our deepest sympathies on the loss of Martha. Jerry, I will always remember how warm and welcoming Martha was when John and I first moved to Boston. We are fortunate to have such fond memories of such a lovely woman. I know she will be missed but how lucky you all were to have her in your lives.

I met this beautiful creature in 1981 on Semester at Sea, and was instantly in love. We had the best time traveling the world, so many laughs and great times. Although we lived on different coasts and did not get to see each other after our trip, Martha always held a special place in my life. I was lucky to be invited to her wedding with Jeremy, and had the best weekend. I send my best regards to the family; she was really an awesome person and will always be dear to me. With love, Craig Lipsey

I spent the first part of my life living next door to Martha on Berkshire Road, in Gates Mills. There were a lot of boys in the neighborhood, not many girls. Martha was older than me, but was always so welcoming to this scruffy kid, me, who spent a lot of time with her brothers, when I stood just outside her door at the top of the stairs. She would invite me into her room, all light and pillows, even after I kicked her in the face when she spotted me doing a back handspring..... Martha always had a smile on her face, always, and she was funny.
There was the time that Martha was learning trumpet and she would hang her trumpet out of her bedroom window, which faced mine, and an unpolished but complete and very clearly trumpeted version of Born Free blew into ever window of our house in the morning. Those mornings are mornings I remember, even if you cursed the noise that woke you up. My father would shake his head and with a quick smile say, "Martha.", and we would laugh.
I went to London and worked for HS Weavers, like Martha, because of Martha maybe. I didn't get a lovely English husband out of the deal but I did gain a lifelong love of the English sense of humor. I rarely spoke with Martha since she left for Boston, but when we did communicate it was like she lived next door, like no time had passed at all. "Moll!" was what I heard on the other end of the line even though we had not spoken in probably 20 years. That's what she called me when we were kids. What a warm, bright soul.

Dear Jerry, Abby, Oliver, and Emma, and all the family,
Your wife and mother was a dear person, and so loved you all! It was obvious when she interacted with you and with her teachers at school, at church and everywhere; I am deeply saddened to hear of her death at such an early age, and send my deepest prayers for you all!

Dear Jerry, Oliver, Abby and Emma,
I am so terribly sorry for your profound loss. Martha was a shining light to everyone around her and I am proud to say that I was your Realtor for 2 home sales, and had the honor of having Martha not only work for me at Home Center Realty but also to have presented her with the company's Top Agent Award in her very first year...a remarkable achievement never matched...from a charming and remarkable woman. Loved her...Love to you all....Gail Petersen Bell.

My heart is absolutely breaking for all of you. This picture of Martha says it all. Beautiful smile, beautiful friend! I will deeply miss her. Will never forget all those play group memories when our kids were young. Feel so blessed our friendship rekindled playing tennis the last several years. Martha was always smiling and laughing but a fierce competitor. Her sense of humor was infectious. I often would leave tennis still smiling about something Martha had said during tennis!! A very special lady who will be deeply missed. Heaven has gained a wonderful angel. She will no doubt have everyone in stitches with her "shenanigans"! Martha I am so blessed to have been your friend! RIP

There is a Martha-sized hole in my heart as I write. Jerry, Abby, Oliver and Emma, Mary, David, Johnny and Jamie - know that Martha is with you every day. Hold tight to all of the wonderful memories. She lived her life with grace, dignity and integrity... and of course, that million dollar smile. I will miss her every day, but know I will see her In the way, way beyond.

Martha was a delight. She was ALWAYS smiling. I never saw her without one. She had the best lob in tennis and the biggest heart in life. I am so so sad she is gone from us and most of all from her family, who she loved and who are aching without her.
