MARTIN LALLY Obituary

LALLY, Martin T. A Distinguished Flying Cross recipient at 21 years old in the Pacific Theatre. Martin Mickey Lally died in peace on August 18, at the Life Care Center, where he was taken care of by all with such devotion, love, and excellent professionalism. Mickey was most happy when spending time with his dear friends and his numerous wonderful family. Son of the late Martin J and Mary E. Lally of Brookline, he is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 64 years Irene Miller Lally. His three sons Thomas J. and wife Jane of Manomet, Robert W. and wife Cindy of Durham, ME, Timothy A. and his wife Maryanne of Sandwich, and predeceased by his daughter Lisa Marie Lally. One of eight Mickey was predeceased by five sisters and a brother all from Brookline, and a sister Sister Eileen P. Lally, of the order M.H.S.H. Loving and dear grandfather of four Jennifer Connor of ME., Bryan T. Lally, Luke A and Maura A Lally of Sandwich. Great grandfather of Grace Connor and Mason Lally. Honored and dear uncle of many nieces and nephews on the east coast, and also in California; as well as his loved extended family in Maine, Texas, California, Alaska, and Pennsylvania. Mickey also leaves two sisters in law Evelyn Lally, Kathleen Miller, and a brother in law William A. Miller. Martin graduated from Brookline High School in 1941. Soon after Pearl Harbor Day he enlisted in the Naval Air Program and went to Wesleyan University in 1942 and graduated from Pensacola Naval Air Station and he was assigned to the U.S.S Yorktown as a Fighter Pilot in the Pacific Theatre of the War. There as a young Ensign he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for Meritorious and extra ordinary achievement in aerial combat. In his prime he was an avid and great golfer. Captain of the golf team at Brookline High School, and often chosen partner of choice by superior officers while in the Navy. A Brookline Firefighter early in his marriage he drove Ladder #2 and was elected as the second President of the Firefighters Association in Brookline at the age of 34. Later he became a Master Electrician, mentor and teacher in that trade in Brookline and Manomet. A member of the V.F.W and the American Legion in Plymouth he was most appreciative of the privilege and joy when asked to be the Grand Marshall in the Veteran day Parade last November 11th in Plymouth. Mickey was past president and Chairman of the Board of directors of the John Alden Sportsmens Club which he joined in 1969. Proudly he enjoyed the ability to help raise much money to establish and build the now existing club. He was a communicant of St Bonaventures Church for 55 years. Involved in many activities in the church as it grew in the 1970s and 1980s, He was a member of the Bonnie Seniors. A charming and gracious man, with a warm smile and caring manner he will be sadly missed by all who honored, respected and loved him. Visiting hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home 619 State Road (Rte 3A) in Plymouth (Manomet) on Thursday September 12, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A funeral Mass of Christian Service will be held at St. Bonaventures Church on Friday September 13 at 11:00 AM. Followed by a Military Service and Interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery Bourne at 12:45 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in Mickeys memory may be made to the U.S.S.
