MARY CULLINAN Obituary

Cullinan, Mary A. (O'Malley) 62, of Nahant, passed away from brain cancer on November 4th 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Mark P. Cullinan. Daughter of the late Stephen P. and Lottie A. (Ostrowski) O'Malley. Loving mother to Christopher Fee and his wife Rachel of Salem, MA, Michael Cullinan and his wife Charlotte of NYC, and Elizabeth (Cullinan) Cronin and her husband Douglas of Lynn, MA. Sister to six siblings: Cathy Domingue and her husband Robert of Danvers, Stephen O'Malley and his wife Ann of Nahant, Mark O'Malley and his wife Mary Beth of Nahant, Margaret O'Malley of Danvers, Elizabeth Falzone and her husband Paul of Hull, and Ann Sorrell and her husband Greg of Londonderry, NH. Doting grandmother to Zeyah, Lydia, and Ellis Fee. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a master's degree from Boston College as an OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner, and she was a certified nurse midwife from the Frontier University of Midwifery. Mary was a pioneer in women's health, specializing in pre- and postpartum care. Mary began her career working as a visiting nurse in rural Vermont before returning to Massachusetts, where she began working at the Lynn Community Health Center and helped develop the teen health centers at Lynn's high school. Mary became the first Director of Midwifery services at Salem Hospital and finished her career at Harvard Vanguard Associates in Boston, where she established and directed its centering program for expectant couples. Mary spent many hours volunteering at Rosie's Place in Boston, helping assist homeless women with their health issues. Mary was a voracious reader and an excellent cook. She loved family parties and spending time at the beach with her family and friends. Her Funeral will be held on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 9:00am from the Solimine Funeral Home 67 Ocean Street (Rte 1A), LYNN, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant with a reception immediately following at the Nahant Country Club, 280 Nahant Road, Nahant, MA. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 3:00pm-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made online to Rosie's Place (a women's shelter) at www.RosiesPlace.org/give or by check to Rosie's Place, 889 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02117 or to the Kaplan Family Hospice House at www.CareDimensions.org.
