MARY M. DRAKE

DRAKE, Mary M. (McCarthy) Of Weymouth and Jamaica Plain, passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends, on October 16, 2025. She was 75. Born in Jamaica Plain, Mary moved to Weymouth as a child, where she was a lifelong resident. Mary attended Boston State College and later Eastern Nazarene College, where she received her Master's in Education. She taught French and Spanish, for over 35 years, most recently at Dedham High School, before retiring. Mary was a graduate of the Weymouth High School class of 1968. She maintained a close circle of friends that affectionately referred to themselves as "The Wild Women of Weymouth." Mary was an avid traveler, taking countless trips to Europe, Mexico, and beyond where she used her trilingual skills. Some of these trips were with her students, giving them firsthand exposure to foreign language and culture. She will always be remembered for her dry Irish wit, her love of life and music and for being the smartest person in the room. She brought joy to every event she attended as well as a memory for details that amazed everyone. Beloved wife of Michael G. Drake. Sister of John J. McCarthy and his wife, Janice of Abington and the late Barbara MacDonald and her surviving husband, Richard of Weymouth. Sister-in-law of Kimberly Gallagher, Susan Barczak and Peter Drake. Much loved aunt to Kara Saluk and her husband, Brendan, Colin MacDonald, Krista MacDonald, Courtney McCarthy, Morgan McCarthy, Kelly Hamel and her husband, Marc, Dana Donovan and her husband, Kevin and Leanne Gallagher. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the Visiting Hours, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 4-8 PM, in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, at 809 Main Street (Rte. 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital), SOUTH WEYMOUTH. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home, at 9:15 AM, on Thursday, October 23, 2025 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, 234 Pleasant Street, Weymouth, at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, 398 Elm St., Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to MSPCA, 350 S.
