Mary Riordan Obituary

70, of Niantic, CT, died January 18, 2008 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. She was born in Cambridge, MA on December 28, 1937, the daughter of Harold and Mary Kathleen (Costello) Gillan and had been a CT resident for over 20 years before moving to NH in 2007. Family members include her husband of 22 years, James Riordan; two daughters, Pamela Gauthier and her husband Scott of Bedford, NH, and Lia Bertolaccini and her husband Anthony of Chelmsford, MA; step daughters, Michelle Rigdon and her husband Steven of Oakdale, CT, and Kelly Barry and her husband William of Oakdale, CT; stepson, Richard Riordan of Stratford, CT.; grandchildren, Sean Middlebrook, Caleigh, Alexis and Anthony Bertolaccini, Elise, Shea and Scott Gauthier, Michael & Daniel Rigdon, and Seamus Barry; brother, James Gillan of Strongsville, Ohio; and sisters Caroline Lopardo of Weare, NH, Janice DeLuca of Wilmington, MA, and Elaine Maisel of Iverness, FL.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Michelle Gillan, who died in infancy and brothers, Robert Gillan, Roger Gillan & Michael Gillan. Mary loved her family and was especially fond of her grandchildren. Besides her family she enjoyed dining out, opera, drawing, the Boston Red Sox and her dog, Fenway. She was a secretary for the American Red Cross serving in Boston, MA, Hawaii & Germany. She was the head secretary at D.L. Maher Co., in Wilmington, MA for many years and also worked for Hospice of Southeastern, CT. A memorial gathering will take place at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester, NH on Saturday from noon to 1PM. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Mary Elizabeth [also known to us in our long ago younger days as Hi-C Mary]. The memories I have of her come back in rushes, some causing smiles, some tears, Tho we've been out of touch in recent years,the special bond we had has not nor will be broken. I loved her dearly.

My sincerest condolences to Mary's family. I have fond memories of years spent with Mary in Cambridge when we used to send Roger to the store for us. I am so sorry I didn't know she was within 20 minutes of me here in CT. I will cherish the good times and memories.
