Michael CLIFFORD Obituary

CLIFFORD, Michael Patrick Of Hingham, formerly of West Roxbury and Cambridge, died on January 7, 2025.

Mike leaves behind his wife of almost 40 years, Darlene Carpenter; and many Heffernan, Roche and Ahern cousins across the South Shore and beyond. He was the proud only child of Irish immigrants, Michael C. Clifford from Sneem, County Kerry and Lilly Forrest Clifford from Cobh, County Cork. He enjoyed two wonderful visits to Ireland and was able to spend time with the Clifford cousin on the farm, where his dad grew up.

He served in the Mass Army National Guard in the pre-Vietnam era. Mike earned his BS in Business Management from UMass Boston in 1978.

While working at Bank Boston, during the Y2K period, he entertained his co-workers on the morning of January 1, 2000 by breaking into song, "Oh What a Beautiful Morning," to celebrate the successful passage into Y2K.

After retiring, he and Darlene moved to Linden Ponds senior living community in Hingham, where they enjoyed making many new friends.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mass. Audubon Society or a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I knew Mike for 9 1/2 years at Linden Ponds, had dinner with Mike and Darlene every week for all these years and will continue to have dinner with Darlene. Mike and I went to the same high school (St. John´s in North Cambridge MA). He was a year behind me so I always said that I was the older woman in his life. I´ll miss Mike. He was a great friend.

I don't specifically recall Mike singing on Y2K, but it is totally on point and I can picture him so clearly singing. He really was a great guy and I know I am a better person for having known him.
