Mike you were the first to welcome me to the neighborhood with a child's gleeful hello and were later very acommodating when I needed access to your yard to paint my house.
Over the ensuing years, my cat Spot befriended you, keeping company with you on your porch. I never realized how much affection you had for him until the news of his death brought about tears. You often told me how you missed him, "He was a good cat" you would say. Im sure he was purring expectantly for you on Heaven's porch when you arrived. Scratch him behind the ears for me.
Most of all I'll miss your big friendly handshake and gravelly voice and seeing you proudly strut up and down River Street no matter what the weather. No one else can croon Beach Boy songs in the middle of the night like you. You went too soon, but I suppose you were just too good for this messed up world.

Mike was a good neighbor. I think of all those times I'd be walking home from work and see him sitting out on the stoop and go over to shoot the breeze. He was a good friend, I'll miss you buddy...
