Everyone who was lucky enough to know Mike mourns this loss. His distinctive voice, massive smile, boisterous laugh and exceptionally kind heart will live in our memories forever. Mike, you will be missed, but NEVER forgotten. Your spirit will live on. We will still feel your presence each time we step foot on Sandy Beach or hang at night on the dock. Your voice will boom across the river and back at us! Whether it was "looking out" for us as teenagers, or becoming friends as adults you will always have a special place in our hearts. You will always be a part of what made Little Neck a special place. Our entire family will miss you, especially Rachael and Finn who spent so many days on the beach with you these last few years. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies to the entire Duran family. Peace and love from the Simkins, Smith, Makela and Cronin families.
Rest in peace. Fair winds and following seas, Liza

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
That we are still
Call me by my own familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way you always used
Put no difference into your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever was
There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
All is well. Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

We share the sadness of our beloved Little Neck community. "Mikey" was taken from us all too soon! His spot on the beach, the dock , his pickup truck.... memories that will always bring a smile and a laugh... most of all his wonderful smile and his warm friendly greetings... Mike was loved by all who knew him.... We will miss him but he will always be a part of Little Neck. Our heartfelt sympathy and friendship to Ruthie and the Duran family.

On our first day as new homeowners at Little Neck in August of last year, Mike stopped his truck in front of our cottage, rolled down the window and, accompanied by an incomparable smile, said “Hi, my name is Mike, welcome to the Neck … you're going to love it here.” It didn't take long for us to realize that Mike was the embodiment of all that it is good about life at LN and the people who make it so. We always will remember Mike for the kindness and thoughtfulness that he showed us on that first day … and every time or place that we met thereafter.

The summer, and life itself just won't ever be the same without Mike. To me Mike Duran = Little Neck. There is such an empty place that never will be filled. And I know I can say with certainty that our hearts collectively broke on October 29. 2014.
Rest easy my beloved friend, and know that you are inshrined in our hearts forever.

Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to the Duran family over the sad loss of Mike. Having known Mike and lived next door, my whole entire life , I feel I have lost more than a friend. Mike was truly the most caring and friendly person on the Neck. You could always count on Mike asking how are you today and truly caring when he asked you, always looking out for others. Mike cared so much for his friends and family and never put himself first. We will miss him so much and will always remember the sparkle in his eyes, his wonderful smile and kindness. Fondly, Patty Marchisio OConnor and Family

To all of the Duran's and family,
I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Mike. He was the nicest, friendliest, happy go lucky person in the world, and will be sorely missed by all that had the pleasure to meet and know him. His big smile and booming voice let you know he was coming or already there and you knew that you were going to be smiling and laughing soon. Taken from all of us much too soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in this very sad time.
Sincerely,
Bob Connolly Jr.

Dear Ruth and Family: So sorry to hear the sad news. I enjoyed so many good times and fun with Mike. Often he would stop in the truck and we shoot the bull. No matter if it was in the truck, on the beach or at the community center, I enjoyed his wit and company. I also knew that if I needed a hand he'd be there. God Bless Michael, and thanks for the good memories. Mike O'Brien
