Rest In Peace my old friend, always was squared away and not a hair out of place! Early on when we first started the " punk" in me would call the turret and Neil would always answer Operations Blackington to which I would then ask is this the turret and who´s this! In later years he got his payback by letting the Mayor know my EMS nickname! Neil rest easy my friend, and as long as we mention your name and memories you have not passed. EMT # 417 aka Teen Angel

I met Neil one glorious summer when we both worked at Walden Pond. He was in charge of first aid and I was a lifeguard. I truly got to know Neil that summer and always enjoyed his company. When he heard that I knew how to make macramé, he asked me to make him a black belt to wear during his Karate sessions. I was happy to do so and I know he wore it with pride. He was determined to be self-reliant and make his own way. When I was in the middle of a bad breakup, he was very supportive and helpful. I still think of him fondly and will miss him.

Deputy Supt Blackington or simply my friend and coworker Neil served the citizens of Boston with dignity pride and professionalism. Neil was a mentor who worked his way up the ranks beginning as an EMT working in Dispatch Operations and various district ambulances. As a field supervisor Neil always had your back. Neil participated in every EMS Week venue riding and demonstrating the one bike we had at the time. He constantly researched different pieces of equipment that helped to make our job easier and safer. He was soft spoken with a great laugh and never once did I hear him raise his voice. At times as a union officer I had to meet with him and discuss an incident while in his role as deputy in charge of Pro Standards. He was always understanding and fair. When I spoke with Neil last after he retired he was living on his favorite place which was Isleboro Is in Maine. RIP my brother.
