McARDLE, Peter Sheridan After a brief but mighty battle with cancer, Peter Sheridan McArdle, a loving husband of 27 years, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Raleigh, NC.
Peter was born in Lawrence, MA, on February 13, 1953, to the late John J. McArdle, Jr., MD. and Nancy Burns McArdle. He graduated from The Choate School in Wallingford, CT and attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the DEKE fraternity. After graduating Cum Laude, he received his undergraduate degree in English from Tufts University in Medford, MA.
Peter had a love and gift for words. He was a beautiful writer and enjoyed reading classical literature. He had a passion for poetry as well. One of his favorite poets being Robert Frost. Peter knew no strangers. Anywhere he lived, he was immediately well-known and had great friendships. He was witty, with an incredible talent for storytelling.
Peter had success in many different areas and positions in the working world. From running his own company during the dot-com boom to a career in insurance sales at Nationwide. Peter found great joy and peace out on the water. He loved the ocean, fishing, and in his eyes, there was no better place to socialize than out on a boat with friends for a cocktail.
He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy McArdle Worthen and her husband, Frederic Paine Worthen, Jr.; as well as his sister-in-law, Joan Creamer McArdle.
Peter is survived by his wife, Cynthia Lee McArdle of Raleigh; his three stepdaughters, Rebecca Anne Lee, her husband, Adam Terando; and their daughter, Ruby Sky Terando, of Raleigh, NC; as well as Rachel Elizabeth Lee of Southport, CT and Robin Meredith Lee of Cambridge, MA; his brother, John J. McArdle, III, of Andover, MA; his sister, Susan McArdle and her husband, David Koelle, MD, of Seattle, WA; his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Gail Robinson and her husband, Jeff Robinson, of Ossipee, NH, Priscilla Jean Wakefield and her husband, Richard Wakefield, of Fairfax, VA, Sarah Lee Lawling and her husband, Dwight Lawling, of Hope Mills, NC; and his brother-in-law, Professor Emeritus Lee Staples and his wife, Louise Staples, of Fairhaven, MA. He will be sorely missed by his nieces and nephews, Sarah Worthen Harter, Frederick Paine Worthen, III, Samson Jonathan Koelle, Amanda Jean Sosebee, Dwight W. Lawling, III, Rebecca Staples, Josh Staples, and Russell Robison; also, Melissa Wadkinson and Mark Michaud; and finally, by two beloved puppies, Roxy and Zorra.
