Peter's family were our neighbors on Atlantic Ave., in Cohasset, back in the '50s. When I was a kid, they seemed golden but have suffered much sadness in the decades since. Peter, like the rest of his family, was brilliant, quirky, friendly and loyal. I had looked forward to reconnecting after half a century, and indeed had lunch with him last fall. Alas, that was the end of our road. Condolences to his family, of whom I best knew, I guess, Jamie.

Condolences to Peter's family. He was a great friend to my husband, Stephen Mattie, in sickness and in health. I am extremely grateful for that friendship. Peter, Fred and Stephen were quite the trio for many years. I can't imagine what these three talked about over coffee. It must of been quite a trip. RIP.

I met Peter through my father, Steve M. as they were both part of the AA community. They had a friendship of many years when my father suffered a traumatic brain injury. Peter was right there to pick up my dad for meetings. To take him out to coffee. When my father passed, Peter gave a heartfelt tribute. I am sure my father was there to welcome Peter into the afterlife. I am also confident they are onto bigger and better things.

Dear Peter's spirit. You were the first person in AA to have a conversation with when I walked in to those hallowed halls at Monday night unity back in '99. For that I am grateful to have known you. And we had a few crazy jobs together with Zippy. I will miss you.

It was a trip knowing you, Peter. Such a talented genius- an enigma at times. We certainly went way back. I was 16 when we were first introduced and I thought you were about the coolest person I'd ever met. I truly wish you great peace. My sincere condolence to all Pete's family.

I was graced in having dear Peter as my AA sponsor for the past five years. During that time we became close friends, meeting every Saturday for coffee and long talks on all kinds of subjects, both personal and general. He was one of the most generous, kind, humble, and wise souls I've ever known, or will ever know. He taught me so much, way beyond how to live sober. We shared many interests, including Melville, music, philosophy, politics, yoga, and of course black coffee. He helped me to see that the universe is far greater than any one person, and that we are but humble inhabitants in it, with the power to do good in the world. He inspired me to live a better life, and to reach out more to help others. I will never forget him or what he generously gave to me. The world has lost a beautiful soul. Namaste, Peter. (The Sanskrit word "Namaste" is a gesture of respect, representing the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us. The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another. Something Peter knew all about.)
