My deepest sympathies to you, Arlinda, and Raymond's family. Indeed, Raymond leaves quite a legacy. For those are us who traveled with him to Cape Verde in the early 80's, there are lots of great memories. While we were there, walking the beach on Sal, Raymond reminded me that we could hold the sand from this spot in our hand -- knowing this is where are ancestors came from --- the beautiful islands of Cape Verde. He made a life long commitment to advancing our heritage and encouraging all of us to embrace it wholeheartedly...and that is what will make for fond memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you Arlinda.

To the Almeida family and ray's beloved Arlinda.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Ray and I recently re-connected by e-mail after many years. We have been friends from childhood because of the friendship of our fathers who served in the army together during World War II. We also worked together in the Job Corps at Fort Rodman and were friends then and later in Boston in the sixities. We shared many times filled with spirited discussions, wonderful Portuguese music and Ray's great cooking of Cape Verdean dishes esp. Cachupa.
My thoughts are with you at this time, Ray was a wonderful person and my memories of him are cherished.
