RAYMOND McDONOUGH Obituary

McDONOUGH, Raymond M. Ret. Boston Fire Dept., of Braintree, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on October 9, 2013, after a period of failing health at the Colonial Nursing Home in Weymouth, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 89. Born in Boston, Raymond graduated from English High School. Raymond proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, where he received several medals, including the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was a retired Boston Firefighter with 43 years of service stationed at Engine 21 at Columbia Road in Uphams Corner. During his career with the department Raymond was the recipient of the B.F.D. Roll of Merit Award and also the recipient of an award from the Boston Housing Dept. as the result of an act of Heroism during a fire in the Projects in 1970. Raymond was a founding member of Florian Hall in Dorchester and served on the original Board of Directors. He was a member of the I.A.F.F. Local # 718 and also a member of the Braintree Lodge of Elks. Raymond was the husband of the late Margaret M. Marge (Dorney) McDonough. Loving father of Ann Flaherty and her husband Dan of Duxbury, Kevin McDonough, Ret. Lt, B.F.D. and his wife Patti of Holbrook, Paul McDonough of Braintree, Peter McDonough of Boston, Brian McDonough and his wife Lawreen of Quincy, Mark McDonough and his wife Mary-Kate of Braintree, Raymond Buddy McDonough of Quincy, Christopher McDonough of Dorchester, Meg Maccarrone and her husband Joe of Braintree and the late Sheila and David McDonough. Father-in- law of the late Dianne R. McDonough. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren. Reposing at the CartwrightVenuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington Street, BRAINTREE until 9:15 AM on Monday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Clare Church, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 2:00 4:00 and 7:00 9:00 PM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Boston Firefighters Burn Fund, c/o Florian Hall, 55 Hallet Street, Boston, MA 02124. Raymond will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to have known him. The McDonough family wishes to acknowledge and express their gratitude for the exceptional care Raymond received from the staff of the Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Subacute Tf Unit.
