Dearest Burt,

I am so so sorry to learn that Rhoda passed in April. I have just found out via a friend of a friend. No words can express how much I will miss her (and have missed her over the years that we haven't lived in the same city). She was a wonderful mentor and friend and I am grateful to have met her, and you, and grateful, too, for all the times we did spend together. Know that I am thinking of you and that I will always carry her in my heart.

Dear Burt,
My sympathies to you and to your children and grandchildren on Rhoda's passing. I look back with fondness to the times Rhoda, you and I were together. I am another person of many for whom Rhoda was a pioneer and strong voice within psychology and a leader in the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI). I especially benefitted from (and used) her writings on the history of psychology. She leaves a legacy that is a model for others to emulate.

Burt, you and I met briefly at a dinner during APA in Toronto and during a trip you both made through Milwaukee quite a long time ago. I also spent a night in Boston with Rhoda when we both were stuck in Boston because of thunderstorms, again around APA. For me, these memories (and others) say so much about Rhoda: always active in APA and always ready to join in and mentor junior scholars. She had major impacts on my career, from her insightful and thought-provoking writing to her readiness to share ideas. I count myself fortunate to stand on her shoulders. My deepest sorrow for your loss.

Rhoda was one of my earliest heroines - she so clearly saw, and so clearly wrote of, the need to transform psychological research; she was not afraid to attack the method and madness of the field. In doing so she transformed my own understanding of how psychology needed to evolve, and how to become a part of the (R)evolution. She was a wise, supportive mentor and a friend to generations of women, including me, for which I am deeply grateful. She loved her family, and she and Burt were a formidable, delightful force for good in the world. She will be missed, but her legacy is indelible.

What a wonderful long life your loved one had, Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. Special mightiness indeed. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.
