Richard GREENE Obituary

GREENE, Richard Francis "Dick" Beloved husband, father and "Papa," passed away peacefully, on March 31, 2025. Born and raised in Brookline, MA, Dick called Massachusetts home for most of his life, residing on Cape Cod for over 40 years and graduating from Boston College High School and Boston University.

Professionally, Dick was a top securities broker for 38 years at Merrill Lynch, where his achievements and legacy are unmatched. He was known for bringing value to his large, diverse client base and for mentoring younger colleagues. He built long-lasting relationships with clients through listening and a disciplined approach to analyzing

stocks. When Dick retired in 1998 as a Senior Vice President, he was recognized with numerous awards and the distinction of being one of the firm's most successful stockbrokers ever.

Dick served his country proudly in the Air Force as a First Lieutenant and pilot and later enjoyed flying privately, especially to his winter home in Arizona. He loved traveling to WWII sites with his "Band of Brothers", drinking early morning coffee with the local fishermen, sharing a beer with a friend, getting donuts with the grandkids, smoking a cigar on the deck, tending his tomato plants, and petting one of his kids' dogs. He was fond of Broadway musicals, Gilbert and Sullivan, chocolate ice cream, running road races and crazy patterned sweaters. His family will forever cherish his generosity, curiosity, intelligence, loyalty and unique ability to listen with his entire attention.

Dick was a devoted family man, raising four children with his wife of 63 years and relishing the role of "Papa" to his eleven grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Joan Greene of Chatham, MA; and his children and their families; Ellen Pumphret of Framingham MA and children, Michael and his wife, Fallon, Sid and Jack, Elizabeth Armstrong of Scituate, MA, her husband, Keith and children, Meg and Sam, Peg Underhill of Orleans, MA, her husband Tom, and children Claire, Nick, and Chris; and Greg Greene of Rumson, NJ, his wife, Danielle and children, Georgia, Brendan and Lila.

Dick was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Greene; and his sister, Mary Greene. He will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know him.

We will gather to remember Dick on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, CHATHAM, MA. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 625 Main Street, Chatham, MA, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
