Needham Historical Commission
March 20, 2022
Rick Hardy was a member of the Needham Historical Commission since 2007, chairing the Commission from 2010 until 2019. He was an ardent proponent of historic preservation, always seeking creative alternatives to demolition that would benefit all parties. He believed firmly that preservation helped to create a "sense of place" that strengthened residents´ commitment to the town. Rick created the Commission´s presentation on "Lost Needham," and was the initiator of the Commission´s efforts to make the town´s preservation bylaw more effective.

Rick Hardy's presence in Needham has given everyone who knew him lasting memories and a model of what a good person and good citizen can be. His passion for his family, friends, cycling, libraries, poetry especially haiku, historical preservation, social justice, and more will be missed by all. Let us honor Rick by engaging fully in our lives.
