McELHINNEY, Robert "Bob" Of Centerville, MA, formerly of Winchester, March 3rd. Beloved husband of Barbara (Neal) McElhinney. Loving father of Michael and his wife Sylvia of Berwick, ME, Robert Jr. and his wife Alice of Melrose, MA, Carol Kuhlman of St. Petersburg, FL, Anne Duran and her husband Thomas of Bridgewater, MA, Paul and his wife Jeanne of Chelmsford, MA and Sean and his wife Kelly of Clovis, CA. Proud grandfather of Patrick and Michael Duran of Bridgewater and Elizabeth and Dylan McElhinney of Chelmsford. Dear brother of Joseph and his wife Jean of Woburn and the late Fr. Thomas McElhinney of the Glenmary Home Missioners, Cincinnati, OH. Funeral from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington Street, Winchester on Mon. March 7th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, 155 Washington St, Winchester at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Winchester at Woburn line. Visitation will be held in the funeral home Sun 2-6pm. My sympathy to Bob's family. I can remember clearly that he was injured while in the service during the Korean war.
I am a Winchester High School, Class of 1949 classmate.

Quick witted, kind, humble, and strong. We were neighbors in Centerville for many years and enjoyed many get-togethers and sing-a-longs. His Irish wit won every time.
We would meet at the firehouse in Winchester and then go over to Winchester H. S. to watch his son Sean pitch for the varsity team.

At the firehouse I watched Bob instruct the young firemen and how he inspired them about the challenges facing them and to go forward with vigor, optimism and enthusiasm.

Bob's life may sound sad as it is recounted in the last few weeks, but he transformed it with his elegance and gallantry. Bob touched all our lives ... He made us laugh, he astonished us with his bravery and his devotion to God and most of all his devotion to family. Don and Clare Slaven, Mashpee, Ma.
