I first got to know Bobby from our elementary school days at Pierce School in Milton. It was the start of what would be a life long friendship. We even played on the same Little baseball team , Walter Baker Chocolate and were coached by his father. Bob and I went to high school school together at Archbishop Williams in Braintree which was interesting in that neither one of us took religion too seriously. We had adventures on Cape Cod and in "Bob's
Sedan " an antique hot rod. He was one of the more interesting and creative people it was my privilege to know. He will be missed by many.

Bobby and rode motorcycles together him on a BSA and me a Triumph. He also was the rider on a drag bike built by Carl Jackson & Stevie Smith. We all took it out to the NHRA (Nat Hot Rod Assoc) quarter finals in Pittsburgh one year. We had no gas money so we´re dependent on Bobby winning to get us home. He came through and won the class!!

Bobby's music was really important to me and I feel so lucky to have gotten to know him over the last decade or so. Not only did we share a love of creative music but also of freight trains. Just recently he sent me this great image of him in the engineer's seat. I'll miss him a ton, but the memories will last.

Bobby was a great jazz musician and he brought me countless hours of enjoyment listening to his music. As a budding music journalist in the early 1980s, he was the first musician I interviewed for a story. Later I helped him reissue one of his early LPs on CD. He was always very kind and generous with me, and always open and honest. He was a great artist and he will be missed by jazz fans around the world. He leaves behind a great legacy of recorded music.

Bobby was unique in so many ways. All of his old hot rod buddies and I will sorely miss hit wit and charme. Condolences to his family.
