Bob Shaw, my roommate at Harvard, was indeed a gentle, thoughtful and kind friend. I recall our discussions and the sense of his support. Memories linger, and my memories of Bob strengthened me in life. May he reset in peace.

Bob was an uncommon man, generous and kind. It was a privilege to have known him and to have been one of his caregivers. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Alzheimer's Disease may have robbed Bob of many things late in his life, but did not touch the essence of his being. He was so very kind, and selflessly open handed. He was patient, and a true gentleman. I can't recall a his making any complaint: he was toobusy expressing thankfulness. The world truly was a better place with Bob. The challenge for us, now, is to look for ways to extend Bob's spirit / gifts in a world sorely in need of social courtesies and kindness.

Bob had been a member of the Standing Committee of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati representing his illustrious ancestor, Captain Samuel Shaw since 1995. His work with the Society dovetailed perfectly with his work with the NEHGS. Bob was one of our most congenial and dedicated members and will be missed by the very many who knew him.
