Roy Connor Obituary

83, of Attleboro, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Hanni E. (Potter) Connor and the late Constance R. (Burk) Connor. He was born in Carver, MA, the son of the late Joseph and Blanche (Roy) Connor. He was a 1942 graduate of Brighton High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Maryland in 1965. Mr. Connor joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and flew P-38 fighter planes during World War II. During his thirty-year career in the USAF he was stationed in Alaska, Berlin, Athens, Korea, Texas, Florida, and Massachusetts. Upon his retirement in 1973 Mr. Connor moved to Fairhaven, where he lived until 1990. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Retired Air Force Officers Association and the P-38 Pilots Association. He enjoyed reading, especially history and westerns by Louis L'Amour. Surviving in addition to his wife are his brother, Walter Connor of New Bedford, sisters, Barbara Reed of Florida and Joann Conti of New Bedford; four children, Kathleen James of Albion, RI, Valerie Bowen of New Bedford, Cheryl Johnson of Fairhaven, and Brendan Connor of New Bedford; sons-in-law Paul Bowen and Helger Johnson; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. His Funeral will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 9AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., FAIRHAVEN followed by a Funeral Mass at 10AM in St. Joseph's Church, 17 Spring St., Fairhaven. Mr. Connor,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USAF-especially during WW II when you flew P-38 Lightnings. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Papa, I will miss you deeply everyday. I will always remeber your stories, the candy you kept in your car for us, you getting our christmas dresses, never forgetting anyone's birthday, your love for all of us. Everyone who knew you respected you. Thank You for Serving our country for so long so proudly!!
Thank You for taking care of Nana, she went too soon. The both of you did such a good job raising your children and making my mother the Best mother I could ever ask for. We are bleesed Hanni took such good care of you til the end we know you would not have been around this long if it was not for her Love and Care!! Miss you so much already !! I wish Landon was old enough to be able to remember you, but I will tell him your stories and all about his Great Papa when he is older. Our eternity lies in our memories and stories. I Love You,

Uncle Roy was very dear to my father Allerton, I loved listening to his stories. He was always a gentleman. I now know the appreciation of those family gatherings in Carver.
