ROY MALETZ Obituary

MALETZ, Roy Of Andover, MA, age 78, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021 surrounded by his loving wife Linda Maletz, and children Allison Maletz of Salem, MA and Drew Maletz of Newton, MA. Born in Boston to Dr. Leo and Mrs. Dorothy Maletz, Roy grew up in Danvers, MA and Lynn, MA until his high school years which were spent at Moses Brown School in Providence, RI. He graduated magna cum laude from Brown University and earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins. It was during his residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal that he met Linda, and they were married shortly thereafter in 1970. During the Vietnam War, Roy fulfilled his required military duties under the Berry Plan, a program for physicians, and was stationed at the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in northern Michigan. He served two years as a major in the Air Force. He and Linda then spent a year in Ann Arbor, MI where Roy completed his fellowship at the University of Michigan before finally settling down in Andover, MA. They lived together there for 46 years. Roy founded Nephrology Associates of the Merrimack Valley in Lowell, MA and enjoyed a long and distinguished career, continuing to care for his patients up until the time of his final illness. He was well known at Lowell General Hospital and other area hospitals. In the medical community, Roy was widely admired for his brilliance and integrity. A man of myriad interests and hobbies with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he led an incredibly rich life that connected him with a large network of friends and acquaintances all over the world. Francophile, military history buff, classical music and opera lover, art collector, pianist, photographer, carpenter, sailor, audiophile, wine connoisseur, these were just a few of the passions Roy embraced in his unyielding desire to live life to the fullest. He was a loving father-in-law to Allegra Maletz; proud grandfather to Madeline and James Maletz; and dear brother to Andrea Chambers of New York, NY and her husband, William and Jane Lane of Wayland, MA and her husband, Earle. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and his loss will be felt by many in the Andover and Lowell communities. A private family service was held, and a Memorial Service will be announced at a future date. Dr. Maletz treated my mother for kidney failure in the early eighties, and was subsequently my doctor for more than twenty years. I had complete confidence in him. He was the best.

Condolences to all family and friends. Back in 1987 is when I met Dr. Maletz in my room at Lowell General. A scared and confused 18 year old sick and not knowing what was happening to me. After 2 weeks of tests in comes Dr. Maletz with my diagnosis of Polycystic Kidney and Liver decease, he put me at ease that he was there to help me through things. I will be forever grateful for his kind words and getting me through what I though was the end of my life. RIP Dr.

I was so sad to see this today. Sending hugs to you Linda and family. I met Roy back in the 70,s. He used to have his car serviced by My husband Brian and Jerry and they became quick friends. I will always remember the way you made us laugh, your interesting stories. The love you had for Linda and the kids. And the care you gave to many family members.. You were one of the greatest people I had the honor of knowing. I will never forget you. Rest In Peace sweet man.

I've know of Dr. Maletz since the late 70s. It wasn't until the late 90s when he became my nephrologist because of kidney failure. He helped me so much to understand it and what my future would look like as my disease progressed. He helped me through dialysis and the surgeries (which he did some). My wife and I would call his private cell with questions and concerns and at no time did we feel we were a burden to him.
During one of his surgeries on me, his cell kept ringing. My wife picked up his calls and relayed messages to him so he could continue working on me. My wife was privileged that he allowed her to do that.
My transplant was in 2005 and I'm 100%. He helped us so much to get through this.
I don't know if I would be here if it wasn't for Dr. Maletz. What a kind and understanding man he was.
May you rest in peace.

We met Roy when hubby went into renal failure. We were so comforted by his outgoing nature, expertise, and passion. Jim Broderick (hubby) had a lot of medical emergencies until we were finally approved for transplant. Roy gave me his cell phone number so I could call him day or night (He even let me assist at Lowell General when he removed a dialysis access from Jim's chest). I wish someone like Roy could live forever. A man head and shoulders above the rest. Our heartfelt condolences, Linda and family. Roy will not ever be forgotten

Dear family....it is with heavy heart and deepest sympathy I write this letter to comfort you...the Good Doctor....was our " go to guy" ....me for about 40 years...my husband up until his passing last year.....
There will never be one to compare.....
Beyond " fixing" us....he healed our hearts...guiding us through illness and all....if he couldn't do it, he'd be on the phone.....
We had his pocket phone #....felt priviledged......" call me anytime"...imagine...in today's world.... he was the cream on top.....I treasure calling him " tge Good Doctor" but he was my friend.....RIP Dear Dr. Maletz

Dr. Maletz was my father´s doctor many years ago now, but memories of him have been frequent. I have never forgotten his care of my father, who had the utmost regard for Dr.Maletz; nor will I ever forget his compassion for him during my father´s last days. I shall forever be grateful.
